Prayer for Renunciation of the Jezebel Spirit and To Break Jezebelic Curses

Father, today I stand before You in the name of your son Jesus Christ, on behalf of myself, as well as on behalf of my ancestors.

I plead guilty for the fact that I have allowed the Jezebel spirit with her five cords to work and rule through and over me, as well as that I have moved in the spirit of Ahab at times.

I choose to submit myself under Your Almighty Hand today, in order that You may lift me up again at the appointed time.

I sincerely repent that I, through my lifestyle and behaviour, have committed the following sins:

Destroyed or opposed Your true prophets (e.g. your marriage partner, child, others, etc.)

Destroyed or opposed Your ordained authority-structures (e.g. parents, teachers, marriage, government, etc.)

Satisfied my own ego

Opposed the work of the Holy Spirit and obstructed the flow of Your Spirit

Idolatry (e.g. knowledge, own views, church, traditions, etc.)

Witchcraft (e.g. the occult, emotional manipulation, controlling behaviour, rebellion etc.)

Walked after the desires of the flesh

Evoked the Ahab spirit in others

Allowed the Ahab spirit to manifest through me

Abused my authority and leadership

Distorted other peoples’ words to look good myself

Distorted Your words, even by speaking in Your name that which You have not really spoken

Opposed leaders

Women: I have undermined and opposed my husband, father, leaders, employers and parent’s authority

Men: I have not treated my wife, family-members (children), subordinates, parents, etc. according to Your precepts and I have not taken up my responsibility as priest, king and prophet

Lies and underhandedness / putting blame and suspicion on others

I have dominated, intimidated and manipulated

I have not obeyed Your Word

I have, through my behaviour, discouraged others from following and obeying You

Rebellion in all its forms in my life

Stubbornness

Pride, arrogance and argumentativeness

Falsely accusing others, discouraging them and caused bitterness in them (e.g. marriage, family members [children], employees, others)

Criticism, lies and breaking down of others

That I have allowed a desire for material wealth to influence me to land myself and others in problems, whilst ignoring the warnings of the Holy Spirit

Sexual immorality in all its forms

Manipulation through sex

I have transferred this spirit to my children and descendants

I have attempted to intimidate others with fear

I have followed tradition instead of revelation

I have followed law instead of the Holy Spirit

I have brought others into bondage (e.g. marriage, relationships, children, subordinates, etc.)

I have tried to control others through a religious mask knowledge, secretiveness, works, long and empty prayers, ‘unique’ experiences and super-spirituality

Anger outbursts and the confusion I have created as a result thereof

That I have stepped on people to get what I wanted. Father, I ask forgiveness for all these sins. I stand before You today on the grounds of Your mercy and the perfect work of the Cross of Jesus, as well as the reconciliation that He has worked for me, with You.

On these grounds, I want to ask You today that You will cleanse these hands of mine from all of these sins, even those sins I haven’t realized yet. Please cleanse my heart also, Father, in the precious name of Jesus.

I also stand before You and petition for every soul and the redemption of every other person whom I have ever polluted with my behaviour.

I humbly ask for forgiveness, for the fact that I have been a stumbling block for them, and I pray that You will remove this foul mantle I have worn up to now – and clothe me with new clothes, fragranced with Your love and acceptance. I ask forgiveness for the fact that I drank from the cup of Jezebel and that I have allowed the following to control me:

1. Occult spirits

2. Compromise (idolatry) through ignoring Your discipline and not having respect for You

3. Immorality and idolatry

4. Domination, intimidation and manipulation

5. False religion

I now ask You to free and redeem me from these 5 cords with which this spirit of Jezebel has controlled me for so long, in the almighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Thank You for complete redemption through the name and the blood of Jesus, through the sword of Your Word and the word of my testimony: “And they have overcome him by means of the blood of the Lamb and by the utterance of their testimony.” (Rev 12:11)

I also pray, Holy Spirit, that You will lead me on this new road and that You will help me in this process of renewing of the mind in all of these areas. I pray that You will take hold now of all the branching and infiltration and working of the Jezebel spirit in all parts of my body and soul, and pull it out of me until nothing remains.

Take these five cords and cut them one by one

1.  I now address you, Jezebel in the spiritual realm, and I declare that I recognize that cord of occultic powers between you and your seat in  …………………

I now take the Sword of the Spirit and I sever this cord of OCCULTIC POWERS in the Almighty name of Jesus Christ!

It is written in 2 Sam 22:32-37: “For Who is God but the Lord? And Who is a Rock except our God? God is my strong Fortress; He guides the blameless in His way and sets him free. He makes my feet like the hinds’; He sets me secure and confident upon the heights. He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; and Your condescension and gentleness have made me great. You have enlarged my steps under me, so that my feet have not slipped.”

2.  I now address you, Jezebel in the spiritual realm, and I declare that I recognize that cord of COMPROMISE between you and your seat in …….

I now take the Sword of the Spirit and I sever this cord of COMPROMISE in the Almighty name of Jesus!

It is written in Acts 24:14: “But this I confess to you, however, that in accordance with the Way, which they call a sect, I worship the God of our fathers, still persuaded of the truth of and believing in and placing full confidence in everything laid down in the Law of Moses or written in the prophets.”

“And He replied to him, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (Matt. 22:37)

3.  I now address you, Jezebel in the spiritual realm, and I declare that I recognize that cord of IMMORALITY – IDOLATRY – between you and your seat in ……………

I now take the Sword of the Spirit and I sever this cord of immorality in the Almighty name of Jesus! It is written in:

Rev.19:7: “Let us rejoice and shout for joy! Let us celebrate and ascribe to Him glory and honour, for the marriage of the Lamb at last has come, and His bride has prepared herself.”

4.  I now address you, Jezebel in the spiritual realm, and I declare that I recognize that cord of DOMINATION, INTIMIDATION and MANIPULATION between you and your seat in ………………

I now take the Sword of the Spirit and I sever this cord of domination, intimidation and manipulation, in the Almighty name of Jesus! It is written in:

John 10:2-5: “But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. The watchman opens the door for this man, and the sheep listen to his voice and heed it; and he calls his own sheep by name and brings them out. When he has brought his own sheep outside, he walks on before them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. They will never follow a stranger, but will run away from him because they do not know the voice of strangers or recognize their call.”

5. I now address you, Jezebel in the spiritual realm, and I declare that I recognize that cord of FALSE RELIGION between you and your seat in …….I now take the Sword of the Spirit and I sever this cord of false religion in the Almighty name of Jesus! It is written in:

“God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24)

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, I now declare:

A divorce with the spirit of Jezebel

A cancellation of all worship she ever received through me, my ancestors or descendants

Nullification of any and every covenant ever made with her

Renunciation of the Ahab spirit

In the authority of the mame of Jesus Christ, I now take this seat in myself and hand it over to the Kingdom of God.

Father, in Jesus name I ask that You will remove the following curses and results due to my ancestors’ and my own involvement with this Jezebel spirit’s activities:

1.   Curse of a bed of anguish and suffering

2.   Downheartedness

3.   Curse of the utmost judgement

4.   Curse of death (Rev.2:22,23)

5.   Curse of humiliation and nakedness

6.   Curse of slavery

7.   Curse of senility

8.   Curse of homosexuality and lesbianism

9.   Curse of cancer

10. Schizophrenia

11.  Curse of divorce

12.  Curse of female domination

13.  Curse of male domination

14.  Incest

15.  Blasphemy

16.  Curse of loss of children

17.  Loss of marriage partner

18.  Curse of disasters and evil

19.  Loneliness and desolation

20.  Curse of witchcraft

21.  Curse of persecution

I pray that You will change each one of these curses to blessings in my ancestor’s, my own, and my descendant’s lives, in the name of Jesus. In the name of Jesus Christ, I now bind and rebuke the spirit of Jezebel from my life.

I speak destruction over the altars where the spirit of Jezebel received worship in my life, and I erect an altar there for God. It is written:

“David built there an altar to the Lord and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the Lord heeded the prayers for the land, and Israel’s plague was stayed.” (2 Sam 22:25)

The stronghold in my life where Jezebel has lived is now destroyed and a throne for Christ Jesus erected there. In the name of Jesus Christ, I now speak withering and death over all fruits of manipulation through the spirit of witchcraft in my life.

I pray that You will remove all leaven that caused me to walk under the control of this spirit, from my habits of thinking, my will, emotions and body. Father, in Jesus precious name, I pray that the Spirit of Elijah will rise up within me to expose the spirit of Jezebel in the Body of Christ. I pray Father, that the hearts of the fathers will be turned towards the children according to Malachi 4:5,6.

I pray that the disobedient will be turned towards the wisdom of the righteous – that You will enable me to outwork Godly principles to handle problems in my life. I pray that more and more spiritual fathers and mothers will come forth out of our midst to show the way and to take Your children by the hand and to lead them on paths of righteousness.

I pray Father, that You will see to it that, through your spirit, I will be prepared as part of Your Bride without spot or wrinkle.

Thank you, Abba Father, for your great mercy and grace.

I seal this prayer now with the precious blood of Jesus Christ and thank you that you have heard me. Amen.

Casting Out Demons

In the ministry of Jesus Christ, healing and deliverance went along with preaching and teaching the gospel. Jesus cast out demons even the day before he was crucified. He said:

“Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.” (Lk 13:32)

The last instructions of Jesus to his disciples after His resurrection and before he ascended to the Father, came to be known as ‘The Great Commission’. No expiry date was provided. Jesus said:

“Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils;”          (Mk 16:15-17)

Jesus did not say these signs would follow only the apostles, but that these signs would follow ‘those who believe’ – that is, those who both came with and after the apostles.

“Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he follows not with us. And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.” (Lk 9, 49-50)

The Bible tells us that the disciples, not just the apostles, went out and were preaching everywhere, the Lord working with them, confirming the word with signs following, chief of which was casting out demons in His name. Jesus told us to occupy until he comes.    (Lk 19:13)

“Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe ALL THINGS whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Mt 28:18-20)

The claim that there is no need for deliverance is not found in scripture

Those who claim deliverance is not scriptural, as it ceased, are unable to provide any scripture to confirm that belief. Nor are they able to explain why so many scriptures were given to us about deliverance if we were not supposed to practice it. The New Testament mentions Jesus casting out evil spirits 55 times and describes events in detail 5 times.

According to Bible prophecy, demonic activity would not cease but rather is set to continue to increase until Jesus returns. (Mt 24; Re chs 6 – 9)

“Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.” (Mt 12:22-29)

Can a Christian ‘have a demon’?

True believers cannot be ‘possessed’ as they are sealed by the Holy Spirit. (Ep 1:13-14, 4:30) The Greek word ‘daimonizomai’ is often translated as ‘demon-possessed’ but simply means to come under the influence of a demon or demons, or become subject to demonic oppression, and terms used are ‘with an unclean spirit’ or ‘have a demon’.

In the Bible, a temple of God is described as having an inner chamber where God dwells, corresponding to the spirit where the Holy Spirit can dwell. There are a number of scriptures which tell us that even so the outer courts of the temple can be defiled. For example, when heathens were worshipping in the outer courts of the temple. (Ez 8:16) Or when Jesus drove out the money-changers from the temple. (Mt 21:12-13) Demons cannot dwell in a genuine believer’s spirit which is sealed by God, but they can inhabit the mind, the heart and (uncrucified) flesh. (Ez 8:16, Ez 42:20, Mt 21:12, Re 11:2)

Paul spoke of a thorn in his flesh, and thorns are a term used in scripture to signify demons:

“Because of the surpassing greatness and extraordinary nature of the revelations [which I received from God], for this reason, to keep me from thinking of myself as important, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan, to torment and harass me—to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might leave me.” (2Co 12:7-8 AMP)

Demons are knowledgeable but evil spirits and they do not have to be inside someone to affect or influence them. According to scripture, it is the correct understanding that even a believer can suffer demonic oppression if he lets down his guard and allows his thoughts, actions, or attitudes to be influenced. We know from scripture that demons work together and that is why scripture strongly urges us to give them NO place. (Mt 12:45)

“Neither give place to the devil.” (Ep 4:27) [Do not give some place, or a little place, but give NO place.] Other versions say: “Do not give the devil a foothold.” Or “Do not give the devil an opportunity”.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:” (1Pe 5:8)  Other versions say: ”Be alert”, “Be watchful”, “Be clear-minded”, “Be on guard”.

“Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” (2Co 2:11)

Evidence from scripture proves that believers can be influenced, afflicted, beguiled, bewitched, blinded, blocked, bound, compelled, deceived, distracted, driven, enchanted, entangled, enticed, tempted (to do evil), harassed, intimidated, misled, oppressed, seduced, stalked, tormented, traumatised, troubled, weakened and worried.

Demons can assault, corrupt, debase, defile, degrade, demean, denigrate, desecrate, destroy, detract, devalue, devour, diminish, disable, discredit, disrupt, distort, disturb, divide, downgrade, enslave, entrap, fragment, frighten, kill, pervert, pursue, steal, stifle, twist and, particularly, cause false doctrine to be taught.

We know from scripture that demons have weapons including especially weapons of deception and that is why we need to wear the armour of God (Ep 6).

He 12:15-16 – Root of bitterness is a spirit.
1Pe 5:8-9 – Afflictions in the brethren.

Christians can be vulnerable for various reasons, such as false doctrine and following false teachers which can provide a gateway for the whisperings of seducing spirits. Some other ways Christians can be vulnerable are due to various circumstances in life, unconfessed sins, unforgiveness, pridefulness, and various forms of backsliding, disobedience, rebellion, etc.

“Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? This persuasion comes not of him that calls you. A little leaven leavens the whole lump.”        (Ga 5:7-9)

We know from numerous testimonies posted online that believers can be attacked, harassed and oppressed etc., long after they are saved, sometimes for many years. For example, someone who has suffered greatly from abuse may struggle with unforgiveness, which can result in bondage, and/or various addictions – or lusts such as for sex, money, drink or drugs – used for self-medication.

Demons cannot dwell in a genuine believer’s spirit which is sealed by God, but they can inhabit the mind, the heart and (uncrucified) flesh. Demons are adept and ingenious at using every means possible to achieve their aims.  They can easily formulate and carry out detailed plans and they can network effectively. Demons do not have to be inside people for their ideas and doctrines to influence that person’s mind and heart.

The dangers are ever-present and we would be wise to be armed with the whole armour of God (Ep 6) to protect ourselves from the devil’s fiery darts and to follow the whole counsel of God. (Acts 20:27) Those believers who claim that we should not pay heed to these matters have themselves already been misled, seduced, blinded and deceived into believing that there is no need to worry about that type of thing when scripture says otherwise.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:” (1Pe 5:8) Other versions say: ”Be alert”, “Be watchful”, “Be clear-minded”, “Be on guard”.

An important part of our daily spiritual warfare is the constant battle of the flesh and blood agents of the demonic, the enchanters, the pastors and teachers who – sometimes wilfully – deny plain scripture in favour of their own private interpretations.

They are those who have given heed to seducing spirits who, in turn, seduce them from the scripture by tempting them with any number of devices that they employ. Scripture proves the devil is able to gain an advantage, a foothold, an armhold, and a stronghold and then a stranglehold.

“Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices [AMP: wiles and intentions].” (2Co 2:11)

The way we combat the devil’s ploys is to study God’s word so that we know not only what it says but its meaning and application. We have clearly been instructed that there are no additions, subtractions, refinements, updates, improvements, expansions, comparisons, devotionals, and corrupted bible study guides, etc. Any ‘new’ translations should be carefully scrutinised as some are ‘New Age’ bibles.

“Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?” (He 2:1-4)

When we learn spiritual warfare, we learn how to apply scripture to help us guard our mind, cast down vain imaginations, and bring our thoughts into the obedience of Christ. (2Co 10:5)

This may seem difficult at first, but not once we experience the reality of what God offers us, and we know it is the truth that sets us free. (Jn 8:32)

More information: Can A Born-Again Christian Have A Demon?

Some Christian groups and leaders even recommend medications and counselling, etc. – anything but casting out demons!

There is no shortage of testimonies from believers who have been oppressed, harassed and tormented with various problems, including temptations and addictions. These Christian witness testimonies cannot be easily explained away, and we would have to discount not only their own testimony but also the testimonies of those around them, family and friends, etc. We would have to say they are imagining things, or they are mentally ill, and/or they have been deceived and they are in turn deceiving. It may be that they are indeed deceived, but then who – according to scripture – would be deceiving them?

One of the main priorities in the work of demons is to tempt believers with false teaching, particularly that there is no need to cast out demons. That is why 26 out of 27 books of the New Testament warn about false teaching. (Philemon with one chapter and 27 verses is the exception.) This goes along with doing whatever they can to influence people, especially believers, not to read the Bible and accurately understand what it says. It is also the work of demons to discourage a believer in every way and to deter them from prayer, and godly praise and worship.

Some Christians assert that their faith or belief in Jesus Christ is enough to protect them from attacks of the devil. But there are many who would testify that they know from personal experience that is not true. Or at least that is not their experience. Who or what are we to believe?

While believers are sealed by the Holy Spirit (Ep 1:13-14, 4:30) we know from scripture that believers are not always full of the Holy Spirit. The idea that Christians are somehow immune to the numerous ways that demons can attack – such as perhaps believing that is due to their own great faith – could lead to self-righteousness and pridefulness which scripture repeatedly warns against. These warnings are clearly addressed to believers.

The Bible story of the man who swept his house clean clearly illustrates it is not a good idea to cast demons out of non-believers. So that being the case, according to some, there is then no need to cast out demons from anyone at any time, whether believers or not?

“When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he finds it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goes he, and takes with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.” (Mt 12:43-45)

What about believers who backslide, or do not confess their sins, etc?

If it were true that Christians are always full of the Holy Spirit so that there is no room for any other spirits why are we warned to test the spirits – of believers! – to see if they are of God?

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God:” (1Jn 4:1)

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” (2Co 13:5)

“For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults: And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.” (2Co 12:20-21)

“Wherefore let him [believer] that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” (1Co 10:12)

“Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.” (2Pe 3:17-18 NIV)

Or: “Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” (2Pe 3:17-18 KJV)

Why would Christians need deliverance when they are cleansed of all sin by their belief in Jesus Christ?

If Christians cannot sin, why did John say when speaking to believers:

“My little children, these things write I unto you, [believers] that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we [believers] have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:” (1Jn 2:1)

“If we say that we [believers] have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we [believers] say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1Jn 1:8-10)

”And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (Ja 5:15-16)

“Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for everyone that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.” (Lk 18:10-14)

Temptation

The primary way demons attack Christians is through temptation such as to sin or to believe false doctrine, or not to pray or worship God.

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1Co 10:13)

“For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.” (1Th 3:5)

“Every man [believer] is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.”   (Ja 1:14-15)

“Watch and pray, [believers] that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Mt 26:41)

Jesus urged us to strongly resist temptation. In the Lord’s Prayer, he told us to ask God not to lead us into temptation but to give us deliverance from evil. Also, we are told to resist the devil. (Ja 4:7)

“Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.” (1Pe 4:12)

We can be led into temptation as a test of faith, even as the spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted three times by the devil, even though he was without sin. Those temptations corresponded to the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh and the boastful pride of life:

“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” (1Jn 2:16)

We know from the story of Jesus that each time Jesus answered “It is written …” So Jesus gave us the example that knowing what scripture says is our best defence against the wiles of the devil.

“Seeing then that we [believers] have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (He 4:14-16)

“From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Mt 4:17)

Carnality and uncrucified flesh can also provide access

Issues with addictions and self-indulgence, such as over-eating, can be caused by the need to crucify the old man or the flesh, and/or they can also be – and probably will be – caused (through temptation), exacerbated and exploited by demons who feed off uncrucified flesh.

“Know you not, that to whom you [believers] yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to whom you obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” (Ro 6:16)

“Mortify therefore your members [believers] which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things sake the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience: In the which you also walked some time when you lived in them.” (Co 3:5-7)

“If any man see his brother [believer] sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. We know that whosoever is born of God sins not; but he that is begotten of God keeps himself, and that wicked one touches him not.” (1Jn 5:16-18)

“And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” (2Co 6:16-18)

The belief that a need for deliverance ceased when Jesus said “It is finished”

The redemptive work of Jesus on the cross was sufficient for complete forgiveness of every sin that has ever and will ever be committed. There is nothing we can ever do that can add to or take away from that work, and that is why Jesus said: “It is finished”. Jesus defeated the devil and won the victory but that did not mean that was the end of sin or guilt, and that no one would ever sin or need forgiveness for sin.

Scripture tells us that when Jesus said: “It is finished”, that was in reference to the work the Father gave Him to do:

“I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.” (Jn 17:4)

We still have our work to do with daily warfare and working out our salvation. (Ph 2:12) We still need to do our part and that’s why Jesus said: “Take up your cross and follow me”. (Mt 16:24‑26) That’s why we have scriptures such as:

“For this is my blood of the covenant, which is shed for many for the remission (forgiveness) of sins.” (Mt 26:28)

“For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.” (Ro 7:22-25)

“Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.” (Co 3:5-7)

The claim that the work of salvation along with the need to practice deliverance was completed on the cross when Jesus said: “It is finished” is an example of wrested scripture, as this referred to the redemptive work of Jesus Himself on the cross, not to our work. We can know this with certainty as scripture tells us that the followers of Jesus were still casting out demons not only after Jesus was crucified and had ascended to the Father as per his last instructions to us at Mk 16:17-20.

In the book of Acts, we see that believers were delivered out of many afflictions, trials and troubles. They in turn delivered others in need including those afflicted by unclean spirits. Peter, Philip and Paul continued to cast out demons:

Peter: “There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one. Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,” (Ac 5:16-17)

Philip: “And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. And there was great joy in that city.” (Ac 8:5-8)

Paul: “A certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met Paul. Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, ‘I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.’ And he came out the very hour.” (Ac 16:18)

God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches …” (Ac 19:11-13)

We were given our work to do

Jesus was sacrificed once for all and for all time, for every sin we could ever commit or ever was committed. Jesus said “Take up your cross and follow me”. (Mt 16:24‑26) We are asked to present ourselves as a living daily sacrifice to God. (Ro 12:1) Jesus also said: “My burden is easy and my yoke is light”. (Mt 11:30) And so it is, compared to what Jesus went through. “For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.” (He 12:3)

If we say we have been once cleansed and always cleansed, we make God a liar and his truth is not in us. Hence, the continued need for repentance and confession of sin as part of our sanctification. The early Christians partook of the Lord’s supper not only to remember his death and resurrection but also they continued to pray for their repentance and forgiveness. This alone proves the error of believing that everything has been done and we need do nothing.

We know we are not saved by works but by grace. Nonetheless, the idea that Jesus did it all and we need do nothing contradicts many scriptures. Examples of this are the parable of the servant who hid his talents (Mt 25:14-30) and many others such as (Mt 25:31-46). Also, the story of the good Samaritan (Lk 10:30-37). Or the parable of the sower (Mk 4: 1–20; Mt 13: 1–9, 18–23). And many more such as the wide road to destruction and the narrow path to salvation (Mt 7:13–14).

Why did God make such a narrow path to salvation?

Our work has only just begun preaching the gospel of salvation with signs following, as per the Great Commission. (2Ti 4:7-8)  This work will continue on and through the Tribulation when demonic activity and deception will greatly increase, as per Bible prophecy.

“Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some [Christian believers] shall depart from the [Christian] faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and [‘Christian’] doctrines of devils;” (1Ti 4:1)

There are many scriptures about deliverance and some are addressed to believers. Paul warns us to resist the devil, to be on our guard, and to give no place to the devil, etc. Those who deny the wise admonition and advice of scripture are giving place to the adversary and his servants to do their work, preaching things for filthy lucre. (1Ti 3:8)

This starts with putting doubts into people’s minds which produce questions that lead to altering the word of God. This is what the serpent did to Eve in the garden of Eden when he whispered: “Yea, hath God said?” Eve – and Adam – should have stayed faithful to what God had told them, but they chose to believe a lie.

Did deliverance and casting out demons cease with the apostles?

There are many Christians who refuse to believe that deliverance and casting out demons should be practiced today. This includes certain denominational Christians and cessationists who teach casting out demons ceased with the apostolic gifts. That is even though casting out demons (or deliverance) is not an apostolic gift according to scripture, so that explanation does not fit even if it were true.

Scripture does not say the apostolic gifts have ceased – although to some extent it is possible they may have done. What scripture does say is that tongues shall cease and prophecies shall cease, although it doesn’t say when. We do know that prophecies have not ceased yet as although the redemptive prophecies have been fulfilled in part there remain many Old Testament prophecies yet to be fulfilled in the last days, the greatest of which is the return of Jesus Christ. But then why – and it’s a big why – does that scripture not mention deliverance?

“Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.” (1Co 13:8)

In short, cessationists are unable to provide a single scripture to confirm that deliverance ceased, or when it ceased. Neither can they explain why deliverance should have ceased if demonic activity has not ceased. Furthermore, the claim that we should not cast out demons today directly contradicts many other scriptures. We should listen only to the Jesus’s own words, as recorded in the Bible and to no one else.

“God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar.” (Ro 3:4)

Those who claim deliverance has ceased have no choice but to wrest, twist, bend and discount many scriptures. For example, cessationist Jim Osman, author of “Truth or Territory” (Justin Peters’ ex-pastor and colleague, and mentor to Doreen Virtue) claims that there is no evidence from scripture that anyone other than the apostles were given authority to cast out demons.

They steadfastly sideline those scriptures which would demolish their arguments such as Luke 9 which proves without a shadow of a doubt that Jesus did not just give power and authority to his disciples including the apostles, but to all those who believe in him, as he did to His 72 followers who were sent out to preach the gospel, heal the sick and cast out demons. (Lk 10:17-19)

“John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he follows not with us. And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.” (Lk 9:49:5)

Yet Jim Osman argues: “At best, Luke 9 is a very unclear passage. All that Luke 9 shows is that during the life of Jesus there were some given that power who were not among the 12. My response would be: ‘So what?'”

The teaching of two gospels rather than one

Dispensationalism is a man-made interpretive system that provides a theological framework to attempt to ‘rightly divide’ the Bible. Many who teach that deliverance has ceased subscribe to the man-made doctrine of dispensationalism. Basically, this is the erroneous belief that there are two gospels and two plans for salvation, rather than one, which in turn allows for other errors to be introduced.

Dispensationalist theology has many variations and underlies many false doctrines we see taught today which repeatedly contradict what the Bible says, such as there will be a pre-tribulation rapture. (Da: 7:25; Mt 24:29-31; Mk 13:20; Lk 21:12-19; Re 6:9-11; 7:13-14; 12:10-11,17; 13:7-8; 15-17; 20:4; 24:29-31)

Dispensationalism teaches there is one gospel – the ‘Kingdom gospel’ – taught by Jesus to the Jews which contained ‘signs and wonders’ to prove to the Jews who He was.  Then there is another gospel as taught by Paul to the gentiles and only the Pauline gospel saves. This contradicts scripture as Paul himself said he was teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and Paul himself affirmed:

“For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (Ga 1:12)

Also, there were signs and wonders in Paul’s time and Paul himself was very much involved in them.

“And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.” (Ac 19:11-13)

We don’t need any man to provide us with an interpretive system for God’s word. The Bible interprets itself, we just need to do what God has asked us to do, and rightly divide it, comparing scripture with scripture, etc.

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, A workman that need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2Ti 2:15)

“These were more noble in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” (Ac 17:11)

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” (1Jn 4:1)

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” (1Th 5:21)

Robert Breaker and Gene Kim who are among those who teach dispensationalism which is very popular on the internet today. John MacArthur describes himself among other things as a ‘leaky dispensationalist’. This doctrine contradicts the words that Jesus gave to Paul:

“There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” (Ep 4:4-6)

He has brought you back as his friends. He has done this through his death on the cross in his own human body. As a result, he has brought you into the very presence of God, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. But you must continue to believe this truth and stand in it firmly. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed by God to proclaim it.” (Co 1:22-23 NLT)

As there were some false teachers in the Corinthian church in Paul’s time who attempted to divide the body of Christ, so there are those today who attempt to divide the gospel of Christ, thereby weakening its power to save.

“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your [believers’] minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” (2Co 11:3)

We are informed to contend earnestly for the faith because we too have been set for the confirmation and defence of the gospel:

“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” (Jd 3)

There are no subsequent unauthorised alterations or additions, 0r other tampering with scripture.

“This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;” (1Ti 1:18)

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (Ro 1:16)

“For we write none other things to you, than what you read or acknowledge; and I trust you shall even to the end.” (2Co 1:13)

“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” (Re 14:12)

“To him the porter opens; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calls his own sheep by name, and leads them out. And when he puts forth his own sheep, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers”.(Jn 10:3-5)

“And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.” (Jn 10:16)

“If a man love me, he will keep my words and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our abode with him. He that loves me not keeps not my sayings: and the word which you hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.” (Jn 3)

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, if you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (Jn 8:31-32)

The whole Counsel of God and the doctrine of Christ

“Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.” (Ac 20:26-28)

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:” (1Co 15:1-5)

“Whosoever transgresses, and abides not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abides in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that bids him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.” (2Jn 1:9-11)

Scripture warns us about deception in the Last Days

Today we see that there are very many Christian teachers who have given heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons. The Bible itself explains how they arrived at with various interpretations that are not found there.

“If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw yourself.”    (1Ti 6:3-5)

“I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” (Ga 1:6-9)

“I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.” (1Ti 5:21)

“But understand this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of or comes from one’s own [personal or special] interpretation.” (2Pe 1:20 AMP)

“Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; but have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of god deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. But if our Gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine to them.” (2Co 4:1-4)

“That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” (Ep 4:14)

“Therefore whosoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: The rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that hears these sayings of mine, and does them not, shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” (Mt 7:24-27)

You too can cast out demons

If you have been seeking and asking God to run the devil out of your life, STOP! The Bible says that you are the one, who is supposed to overcome the enemy. Do you cast out demons? If the answer is yes, thank God! If no, you have to understand that you too as a child of God can drive out demons in the “name of Jesus”. Begin exercising the power and authority you have been given. Don’t accept defeat. Rise up in faith. Stand up on the Word of God and fight the enemy out. Rise up and receive the deliverance of the Lord.

“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.” (Mt 4:23-24)

“Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.(Mt 17:17-21)

Some ask why are there no demons today, or so few? Demons, of course, hide themselves. Also, they have found their niche where they can work effectively to destroy God’s plan for salvation and mislead as many people as possible. Some have turned a blind eye to demons due to their fear and unbelief and because they are – perhaps without even realising it – fearful of even contemplating the realities of spiritual warfare against demons. The days are coming soon when they will see greatly increased manifestations of demons and then many will be converted.

Deliver us from evil …

Jesus did not send anyone to do the work of God without giving them the authority to cast out demons. Jesus called His twelve disciples to Him; and gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.

Jesus gave them – as he gave all those who believe in Him – the authority over all the power of the enemy, not just some. He said:

“The seventy-two returned again with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name. He replied, I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions [both terms used in scripture to signify demons] and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. 19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (Lk 10:17-19)

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; (Is 54:17)

“For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.” (Lk 21:15)

“And as you go, preach, saying, The Kingdom of heaven is at hand …. heal the sick …. cast out demons. (Mt 10:7-8)

“But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.” (Lk 11:20)

No instructions provided

Some claim it is not possible we were meant to cast out demons as we haven’t been given precise instructions on how to do it. This is not the case as the Bible clearly tells us all we need to know. The instructions are not complicated and they do not need to be because the power to cast out demons is when we say ‘in the name of Jesus’. This is not just a ‘tagline’ as is blasphemously taught by some. With particular regard to casting out demons, Jesus spoke of those weak in faith and hard of heart.

“Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” (Co 3:17)

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Ph 2:9-11)

Keys for deliverance

1. Authority in the name of Jesus

If you’ve been standing there wringing your hands and worrying about what the devil is doing, it is time for you to put the devil under your feet. Cast out the evil spirits that are trying to destroy your home, your marriage, your finances, your church, etc.

You have been given the power of attorney that enables you to use the powerful name of Jesus, a name that is above every name:

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runs into it, and is safe.”                (Pr 18:10)

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Ac 4:12)

The Power of the Holy Spirit

The ‘ability’ to cast out demons comes from the ‘power’ of the Holy Spirit. Therefore if we have the Holy Spirit and we have faith, we will be able to cast demons out by using the name of Jesus:

“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”   (Ac 10:38)

“The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.” (Is 11:2)

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor…to set at liberty those who are oppressed.” (Lk 4:18)

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings to the meek; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; to appoint to them that mourn in Zion, to give to them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified.”          (Is 61:1-3)

“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. and I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgments, and do them.” (Ez 36:26-27)

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (Jn 14:26)

3. There is great power in the words that we speak

With the tongue, we can uplift or curse, bless or condemn, praise or disgrace, ourselves or others. We must watch the words that come out of our mouth. We cannot talk defeat and expect victory. We should have the ‘bulldog’ faith. Never, never give up. Remember, we can never be defeated unless and until we give up.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Ph 4:13)

“The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.” (Pr 12:6)

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Pr 18:21)

“Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.” (Ps 141:3)

4. The blood of Jesus, the word of our testimony and our willingness to fight

We can apply the blood of Jesus in prayer to a person or a situation. Also, we can ask God to cover a situation with the blood of Jesus. This is because the blood of Jesus represents the suffering and death he endured as a sacrifice (atonement) for our sins.

“But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.” (Ep 2:13)

“For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” (He 9:13-14)

“The worshipers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins… Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus… Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.” (He 10:2,19,22)

“And they overcame the enemy by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” (Re 12:11)

5. We should not fear

As believers we are given power to cast out demons in the name of Jesus, and while there may be some temporary discomfort, psychologically, emotionally and physically, we can have faith that no lasting harm will come to us through this. Any discomfort experienced is minor compared with the damage that demons can do if they are left to do their work unhindered. Demons can cause havoc in a person’s life, through relationships, health, finances, and any and every other way they can.

“But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and keep you from evil.” (2Th 3:3)

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2Ti 1:7)

“Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.” (Ps 55:22)

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” (Is 41:10)

The story of the Seven Sons of Sceva

This short Bible story tells us much. Read about this here.

“Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches. And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. And many that believed came, and confessed, and showed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.” (Ac 19:13-20)

Demonic doorways, gateways or portals

Demonic doorways – aka portals or gateways – are ways that demons can get access to believers, or provide a form of channel. These doorways provide licence grounds or legal rights to demons to get access to believers to harass, torment and destroy, in all the ways that they do.

If a believer is experiencing the effects of one of the many forms of demonic harassment, we can become overcomers with prayer and fasting to break through eventually. Although for some, along with backsliding, etc., this can take many years and involve various difficulties caused by demons including health problems. The process can be greatly speeded up if the believer can find out what or where those open doorways are, and shut them down. So in spiritual warfare, it is important to know about demonic doorways and how to deal with them.

Some have expressed concerned that demonic doorways, gateway or portals are not mentioned in the Bible but while those words are not found in scripture, the concept is, only in different terms, such as in these scriptures and more besides which are addressed to believers:

“Neither give place to the devil.” (Ep 4:27) [Other versions say “Do not give the devil a foothold, or an opportunity.] [Not give some place, or a little place, but give NO place.]

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:” (1Pe 5:8) [Other versions say: “Be vigilant”, “Be alert”, “Be on your guard”, “Be clear-minded”, “Be watchful“.] This scripture conclusively proves the need to be fully clothed with the armour of God – as per Ephesians 6 – as we are engaged in deadly warfare.

“Sin no more, lest a worse thing happen to you.” (Jn 5:14)

“For we – believers! – wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ep 6:12)

“For though we – believers! – walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (2Co 10:5)

Any type of traumatic experience can be a demonic doorway. Any way in which we break the commandments, or we are rebellious or disobedient to God can provide a demonic doorway. Various forms of disobedience to God, such as the many forms of idolatry, unforgiveness, pridefulness, sexual immorality or impurity, or engaging in sinful practices or any form of disobedience such as having cursed objects in our home, garden, garage, transport or workplace, etc., can effectively open demonic doorways, particularly if it is not renounced and repented for.

“These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren. My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother [disobedience to parents breaks one of the ten commandments]:” (Pr 6:16-20)

Demonic doorways or channels can be provided by unholy soul ties which can be to things, or any way in which we turn to man rather than to God. We can say a simple prayer to renounce unholy soul ties.

Demonic doorways can also be passed down through the generations as a natural consequence of the sins – both by commission and by omission – failures and examples, etc. of our ancestors passed down to us through our blood (genes) and learned and inherited patterns. The Bible is replete with mentions of generational blessings and curses from Genesis through Acts to Revelation.

This is an inescapable reality without the deliverance and salvation that only God can provide through belief in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Renunciation Prayers

We are saved by grace and not by keeping the law or our own righteousness

Sin is lawlessness and scripture makes it clear we are not supposed to carry on sinning after we are saved. Believers backslide, some repeatedly, but as long as we confess our sins and repent, God will forgive us but there are warnings about this as we are not supposed to believe there is nothing wrong with that and accept it as fine and carry on that way;

“For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins,” (He 10:26)

Legalism is teaching that we are saved by keeping the law – which is by our own righteousness – rather than by grace – which is by the righteousness of Christ through faith.

The subject of legalism can be complex and difficult to fully comprehend. Even though the Mosaic law passed away, the need to have faith in God through Christ and keep the commandments of God remain. There is a link at the end of this article to “Law and Grace Comparison Table”.

“And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.” (1Sa 15:22)

We are not to be ignorant of things that are an abomination to God and can put us under a curse from God. Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law, but we are not supposed to ignore the law, or wilfully go ahead and break it anyway.

“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.” (Mt 5:17)

All [meaning Old and New Testament] scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” (2Ti 3:16)

Jesus was a rabbi and he kept the law. The apostles were all practising Jews, so they knew the law, and aimed to keep it. But we cannot be saved by the keeping the law, but only by grace which is received through faith.

“And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:” (Ph 3:9)

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2Co 5:21)

Paul warns us against legalism:

“Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?”          (Co 2:20-22)

“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” (Ja 2:10)

Easy-believism and hyper-grace churches can be lukewarm Christians who confess Jesus as Savior but do not submit to Him as Lord. These types of teachings so popular today provide a good example of combining truth with error, focusing on God’s grace while neglecting what Paul called the “whole counsel of God”. (Ac 20:27)

“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”        (2Ti 3:5)

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.” (Ro 6:1-7)

“Submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you. draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded.” (Ja 4:7-8)

Unforgiveness is a sin allowing Satan an open door into your life

“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Mt 6:14-15)

“Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.” (Mt 5:23-24)

“But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven.” (Lk 6:35-37)

“For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.” (He 5:1-3)

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (He 4:16)

Forgiveness

Salvation

We are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus and not by our own efforts or works. Grace (unmerited favour) alone means that God loves us and forgives us, and saves us only because of the work of Jesus Christ and salvation is a free gift.

This is not because of who we are or anything we have done or can or will do because there is nothing we can ever do to merit such favour. God did this also so that no flesh should glory before Him. We are saved by the righteousness of Christ, not by our own righteousness(es) which are as filthy rags:

“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” (Is 64:6)

“For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.” (Ro 10:3)

We are justified by our faith not by works (Ro 3:28), by God’s grace as a gift to us.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ep 2:8-9)

Jesus defeated the devil and won the victory but that did not mean that was the end of sin or guilt and that no one would ever sin or need forgiveness for sin. Scripture tells us that when Jesus said: “It is finished” that was in reference to the work the Father gave Him to do.

We are not saved by works but faith without works is dead

“What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good[a] is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.” (Ja 2:14-26)

Yet we still have our work to do

The righteousness of Jesus Christ is imputed to us but this does not absolve us from doing our part. As Jesus Christ, the captain of our salvation, was made perfect through the things he suffered, so the same is true for us.

“Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;” (He 5:7-9)

“For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.” (Ro 6:6)

“So then, my dear ones, just as you have always obeyed [my instructions with enthusiasm], not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation [that is, cultivate it, bring it to full effect, actively pursue spiritual maturity – in obedience] with awe-inspired fear and trembling [using serious caution and critical self-evaluation to avoid anything that might offend God or discredit the name of Christ].” (Ph 2:12)

Sanctification

We are sanctified which means to be made holy – but sanctification does not happen instantly, rather it takes time. This process requires perfection, meaning that it is an ongoing process. The false doctrine of ‘once forgiven always forgiven’ is a nice crowd-pleaser but it contradicts scripture.

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Ph 3:13-14)

Some claim that Christ is able to perfect us instantly but if we were already perfect what further need would there be for perfection and sanctification? If there is no further need for warfare, what need then to put on the armour of God?

Paul confirmed his daily struggle for the hope of the high calling of God in Jesus Christ. Paul also affirmed his dying daily to self, the thoughts and desires in his flesh. Demonic influences have always been busily engaged in getting people to focus on themselves. In addition to this, he fought with the gainsayers and deliverance deniers on the outside.

“For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.” (1Th 4:2-7)

“But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.” (2Th 2:13)

“Who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance. May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1Pe 1:2)

“The very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1Th 5:23)

Repentance

As in the Old Testament, there was a continual offering for sin, so in the New Testament there is a continual offering of repentance and prayer.

Confession
Redemption
Repentance
Renunciation
Forgiveness
Reconciliation
Revocation
Contrition

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” (Jn 17:17)

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Ps 139:23-24)

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Ph 1:6)

“He told them: This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.”        (Lk 24:46-48)

To repent is to change one’s mind but also to acknowledge our sinfulness before God and to turn away from evil and to good. If man doesn’t believe he is ill, he will not realize his need for healing. Due to pride, he will not believe the medicine – faith in Jesus Christ – as per 1 Cor 15:1-4 – can heal him as he doesn’t believe there is anything wrong with him in the first place. This verse clearly informs us of a need for continual confession and repentance from sin and so renunciation.

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” (1Jn 1:8-10)

“When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.” (Ac 11:18)

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,” (Ac 3:19)

“In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;” (2Ti 2:25)

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2Pe 3:9)

Renunciation Prayers

Renunciation prayers are formulaic prayers which are always addressed to God and said ‘in the name of Jesus’.  These prayers provide a means of confession that can help to bring us to repentance and therefore give us deliverance.  They can be particularly helpful for new believers who are not sure how to pray or what to say, etc.

Renunciation prayers are freely available on the internet to help with various difficulties such as struggling with various forms of bondage, backsliding, and /or unconfessed sin. They can be personalised and altered to suit particular circumstances and details, names, etc. removed or added, as required.

These prayers can be said for anything such as unforgiveness, unholy soul ties or past transgressions, or anything else that can hinder our spiritual progress.   The proof for this is given in many scriptures, such as:

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1Jn 1:9)

“Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (Ja 5:16)

“When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.” (Ps 32:3-6)

We can say a renunciation prayer that is specific to any practice we may need to repent for such as the occult, the New Age, freemasonry, witchcraft, idolatry, etc. Renunciation prayers have been likened to cancelling spiritual ‘subscriptions’. If something has been renounced it has been rejected, cut off, or the individual is refusing to follow or obey.

Some renunciation prayers are quite long as they can go into detail on the subject but they only need to be said once. Reading through details can help bring someone to true heartfelt repentance as it helps them to see what was wrong with whatever the prayer is about and may bring to their attention some things they had not realised before.

“Many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.” (Ac 19:18)

“But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.” (2Co 4:2)

“Lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.” (2Co 12:21)

“Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.” (Ez 14:6)

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2Ch 7:14)

“For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.” (Ps 38:18)

“Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, ‘Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness’. (2Ti 2:19)

“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.” (Pr 28:13)

“When anyone becomes aware that they are guilty in any of these matters, they must confess in what way they have sinned.” (Le 5:5)

And must confess the sin they have committed. (Nu 5:7)

“And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments; We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments: Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee. O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee. To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him; Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets. Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him. And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem. As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth. Therefore hath the LORD watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice. And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly. O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us. Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord’s sake. O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies. O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.” (Da 9:3-19)

Generational Iniquity

Renunciation prayers could be for generational family inquity – that is sin and the results of sin, by both commission and omission – passed down the generations. Generational curses appear all the way through the Bible from Genesis through Matthew to Revelation. It is clearly nonsensical to claim – as some do – there is no such thing and any and all renunciation prayers for this and anything else are unscriptural.

“The Lord is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.” (Nu 14:18)

Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,” (De 5:9)

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’ Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers’ guilt. Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?” (Mt 23:29-33)

“And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies’ lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them. If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity: Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.” (Le 26:39-42)

“Those of Israelite descent had separated themselves from all foreigners. They stood in their places and confessed their sins and the sins of their ancestors. They stood where they were and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for a quarter of the day, and spent another quarter in confession and in worshiping the LORD their God.” (Ne 9:2-3)

While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the LORD my God for his holy hill.” (Da 9:20)

“While Ezra was praying and confessing, weeping and throwing himself down before the house of God, a large crowd of Israelites—men, women and children—gathered around him. They too wept bitterly.” (Ez 10:1)

“Let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s family, have committed against you. (Ne 1:6)

Cursed objects and occult symbolism

Anything in our lives which is an abomination to God and therefore cursed by Him can provide demonic doorways. Such as cursed objects or occult symbols in our home, garden, transport, workplace, etc. and any items connected to various forms of idolatry, false religion including the New Age, and false doctrine including Christian false doctrine.

Contrary to popular belief, it is not possible to purify and cleanse cursed objects, whether to use the materials in them or repurpose them. Only human beings can be cleansed or purified in this way – whether by prayer and repentance, fasting, and renewing our mind, etc. or by casting out demons – and animals who can also get demons in them or even be possessed.

“Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.” (Jb 14:4)

Occult symbolism is everywhere today so we cannot worry unduly about company logos etc. but there are certain objects and symbols we should not wear or bring into our homes on decorative items, clothing or jewellery etc. Some of these are everywhere today and include celtic crosses and other patterns, Greek keys, etc. and many occult symbols often found in our homes, in decorative objects, clothing and jewellery. There are many such things Christians should avoid and there is a link to a comprehensive list of cursed objects here.

“Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.” (De 7:26)

“Little children (believers), guard yourselves from idols—[false teachings, moral compromises, and anything that would take God’s place in your heart].” (1Jn 5:21 AMP)

Cursed objects and occult symbolism can provide demonic doorways and by having them in their home, even unknowingly, people can lay themselves open to demonic harassment. Many do not recognise the work of the demonic, not realising that this can take many forms, such as things not working out quite right in one way or another. Any form of mental unrest or emotional problems, such as depression, problems with concentration, with sleeping, any health problems at all, if not caused by demons, can be exploited by them. Demons can exacerbate any condition, physical, mental or emotional, and to a greater or lesser degree prevent healing by the Holy Spirit.

This is not because demons are stronger – although the Bible tells us that the devil does have a great deal of power which is often under-estimated – but because if given conditions to operate, demons are perfectly capable of hindering the experience of salvation. Whether problems in relationships, or problems with finances and livelihood, home, addiction/s, concentrating, or sleeping, or depression, etc. In anything that isn’t the peace of God that passes all understanding, demons can be implicated in some way and usually are. As demons are bullies, if they didn’t cause the problems in the first place, they will certainly capitalise on them.

Cursed objects comprise those things which are an abomination to God including some perhaps surprising things which on the face of it appear harmless or good. Such as fairies and imps which are in effect a type of demon. Or ‘Care Bears’ which appear heavenly but a closer look shows the promotion of an atheistic humanism. Then there are more obvious things such as anything to do with witches and wizards, or stories about or including them, such as ‘The Lord of the Rings’ or ‘Harry Potter’.

Some Christians believe – and some also teach – that if something is fiction it cannot or should not affect anyone. That does not consider those who have difficulty in separating fact from fiction, including younger people and the mentally challenged. Anyway, we know that fiction is, in fact, capable of having a very strong effect on people’s minds and emotions. Otherwise why would anyone watch movies or play video games? Therefore there can be not a shadow of a doubt that so-called fantasy can have a very real effect on people’s minds. Any fantasy can constitute a form of black magic which is in essence to affect people’s minds and way of thinking but not for the good. Why would anyone attempt to claim otherwise?

We should also beware of superstition which is itself cursed, such as believing black cats are cursed because people associated them with witches who may not been witches at all. We should not be deceived, witches do not wear tall black hats and dance around cauldrons, casting spells. Many witches are in fact male and wear a suit. The 850 followers of Queen Jezebel in the Old Testament who were all male and they would effectively have been witches. Anything to do with superstition, or luck (the word derived from ‘Lucifer’), or anything that has come out of folklore, which is pagan in origin, or any false religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism or Taoism etc. is cursed.

Even so-called Christian items can be cursed, especially Roman Catholic items of idolatry, statues, icons, relics, rosary beads and so forth. For example, a cross with a figure on it, particularly if Roman Catholic in nature or in origin could also be regarded as a cursed object particularly as many such larger crucifixes are embellished with occult symbolism. The crucifix was a Roman method of torture and early Christians would not have venerated a crucifix in any way. An upside-down crucifix is used in satanism and there are variations of a cross which are used as occult symbols. For example, a rose cross is connected to the Rosicrucian Order yet often seen in Christian churches, in stained glass windows. Or the fleur-de-lys which has been said to be ‘the devil’s flower’. Much more besides can be found inside and around churches, for example, gargoyles.

“Go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt.” (Je 25:6)

Strongholds

Basically a stronghold is what it says: “a strong hold”. This means a strong hold on our mind, will and emotions. Strongholds are a subject that is worth some study, as it reveals much about how demons are able to deceive, and acquire and keep power over people once they have gained access through one of more of the above-listed means.

Satan has something for everyone, and ‘more subtle than any beast of his field’ his way of working is often slow and imperceptible. The devil and his demons know exactly how to find a chink in armour, to get a toehold, a foothold, then a stronghold, and then a stranglehold.

One important element of a demonic stronghold usually is deception as to their existence and the presence of the demons that they facilitate, so that people are not aware of them. Demons work together and are easily able to ‘network’ in the spiritual realm. One demon will prepare the way for another, or work to conceal the presence of another. A gatekeeper demon will open the door for other demons to come in. Scripture doesn’t tell us, but it has been said a gatekeeper demon is or can sometimes be the strongman demon that Jesus spoke about:

“Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.” (Mt 12:29)

Spirits are mentioned many times in the Bible

Angels are spirit beings and are mentioned in 34 books (of 66) in total. Demons are evil spirit beings and like angels they do not have physical bodies but they do have a will and a personality, emotions, knowledge and self-awareness. It is believed there is a hierarchy, with ‘princes’, ordinary demons and generic-type demons which don’t have a name.

There are seven Spirits of God. (Is 11:2–3; Re 1:4, 3:1, 4:5, 5:6)

According to Wikipedia: “The Koine Greek word pneûma (πνεῦμαpneuma) is found around 385 times in the New Testament, with some scholars differing by three to nine occurrences. Pneuma appears 105 times in the four canonical gospels, 69 times in the Acts of the Apostles, 161 times in the Pauline epistles, and 50 times elsewhere. These usages vary: in 133 cases it refers to “spirit” and in 153 cases to “spiritual”. Around 93 times, the reference is to the Holy Spirit, sometimes under the name pneuma and sometimes explicitly as the pneûma tò Hagion (Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον). (In a few cases it is also simply used generically to mean wind or life.

There are likely many thousands of types of demons but there is no need, of course, to know all their types and names, we can just cast them out. It is said using names can help and lists of names can be helpful in some circumstances. Deliverance ministers know from experience that calling out demons by name – however odd the names may seem – can actually work in practice.

“He asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.” (Mk 5:9)

Also, deliverance ministers will say – and the personal experience of many has confirmed – that many things – such as for example states of mind – people don’t realise and perhaps wouldn’t think were demons, actually are. Or those states of mind may be connected to demons or have demons working them through them, or be exploited by demons. Demons are bullies and will take any opportunity to exploit any sort of weakness or get through into any gap in our armour in whatever way they can.

Demons are experts at imitating and impersonating not only the living but also the dead.  Communicating with the dead is expressly forbidden in scripture, so there is a demonic doorway right there for anyone who attempts to do that. It is also important to understand there is a counterfeit Holy Spirit. For that reason, we should not be listening to any voice ‘in our head’ without checking everything against scripture, even if it seems to be someone we know, someone we trust, etc. Remember demons are liars and deceivers and it is only by discerning spirits using scripture that we can distinguish between the two.

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God:” (1Jn 4:1)

“If they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” (Is 8:20)

The belief or claim that once we are saved – once we have put our faith in Jesus Christ and that he died for our sins and rose again – we then somehow become immune to demons is a dangerous delusion, allowing demons to work unhindered. Demons work night and day to deceive Christians and they are masters of deception. They can sound for all the world like a perfectly normal human being going about his daily business, eating, drinking, passing the time pleasantly, who is not doing anyone any harm. While secretly plotting and working to steal, kill and destroy and torment.

Any demon is better out than in, so it may be a good policy to say, “When in doubt, cast it out”.

A list of demon names such as follows can be useful to help understand the nature of demons and what they can do. Some of the names in the list may seem odd and you may think is that actually a demon? But that is one reason why a list like this can be helpful.

Even those with decades of experience in Christian deliverance say that while there is a great deal that has been found out through scripture and through hands-on experience, there is a great deal that is not yet known. Then perhaps we don’t need to know it, but it would be wise to bear that in mind.

Self-deliverance

Audio and video deliverances do work perfectly but it is vital to ensure these recordings are from a pastor who teaches the doctrine of Christ along with deliverance as part of the full gospel of Christ, which Paul calls the whole counsel of God. (Ac 20:27)

Self-deliverance using scripture also works very well if we learn to discern the voice of the Holy Spirit, from the voice of unholy – unclean – spirits. We can learn how to recognise and to stop listening to the three lies of the serpent in the garden and all their modern variations. (1) “Yea, hath God said?” (2) “Ye will not surely die” (3) “Ye shall become as gods” – in all its modern-day variations.

In-depth study of God’s word will lead us into knowledge of the truth and understanding and enable us to discern between good and evil. (He 5:14) We can also pray to ask God to give us more discernment:

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” (Ja 1:5)

“I am Your servant; give me understanding [the ability to learn and a teachable heart] That I may know Your testimonies [decrees, rules, laws].” (Ps 119:125 AMP)

“Teach me good judgement and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.”     (Ps 119:66)

“And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.” (Ph 1:9-10)

“Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad:” (1Ki 3:9)

We can learn how to wage spiritual warfare by knowing what God’s word says and applying it to every situation in our lives.

“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” (Ac 17:11)

The Holy Spirit

Scripture provides us with all we need to know to learn to identify the true Holy Spirit who will always point to – and glorify – Jesus. Scripture tells us this:

“If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” (Jn 14:15-21)

Caution is advised

Casting out demons does not require any special abilities. It is a simple process that requires us to take the authority that Jesus gave us and act in faith. There is nothing in scripture that could lead us to believe the ability to cast out demons is a special gift. Although ‘the gifts of healing’ and ‘the discernment of spirits’ are mentioned as two of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. (1Co 12:8–10)

Deliverance is always to be carried out “in the name of Jesus” as casting out demons is done by the power and authority of the Holy Spirit. It need not usually be a long drawn-out process. Scripture tells us sometimes prayer and fasting is necessary for a certain type of demon. (Mt 17:21)

We should not make entertainment out of people who are demonized. Nor should we give those people sort of special honour or status to those giving deliverances as they are only our brothers and sisters in Christ. That could even be idolatry.

Jesus is the good shepherd and ALL ALL ALL the others are HIRELINGS who will flee when the antichrist wolf comes. (Jn 10)

The authority to cast out demons is available to all believers by the power of the true Holy Spirit when we say “in the name of Jesus”. We do not need to use any form of physical aid, a Bible or a crucifix, as that could be a form of Roman Catholic or even Christian witchcraft. We do not need a ‘deliverance manual’ or any extra books as the word of God is the best and only deliverance manual we will ever need.

Talking to demons is not only pointless as they are liars but also dangerous. Demons can play up, act up and put on a show. They can go out and even come back again with others so the state of that person is worse than before as we are told in the parable of the man who swept his house clean. (Mt 12:43-45)

This is why we must be careful to wear our armour of God at all times so we are able to ‘walk out’ our deliverance.

“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.” (Ep 6:11-18)

Casting out demons is only part of the gospel not the whole of it

The casting out of demons is not a small insignificant part of the gospel as evidenced by the number of scriptures which reference it. Paul advised us to teach the whole counsel of God:

“Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. for I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.” (Ac 20:26-29)

Jesus warned of a great increase in deception in the last days including in the Christian church which Paul called ‘the apostasy’, ‘the falling away’ or ‘the great rebellion’. (2Th 2:2)

“Whosoever transgresses, and abides not in the doctrine of Christ, has not God. He that abides in the doctrine of Christ, he has both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that bids him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.” (2Jn 9-11)

“Notwithstanding I have a few things against you, because you suffer [tolerate, allow, permit] that woman Jezebel [an enchantress who intoxicates] who calls herself a prophetess [false doctrine, cults] to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication [adultery with the world] and to eat things sacrificed to idols [commit idolatry].” (Re 2:20)

We should focus on Jesus and all that He told us and on all of God’s word

The belief that deliverance has ceased does not benefit anyone but demons and their workers. Satan and God are not “equal” or “balanced” opposites. (1Jn 4:4) Satan is a created, finite being who possesses only the power God allows him to have. (Jb 1:9-10)

Among those who do believe demons are at work today, there are a variety of perspectives. Some tend to over-emphasize the work of Satan, giving him more attention than he deserves. Our focus should be on the glory of God and His righteousness. (Mt 6:33)

Our eyes are to be fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith”. (He 12:2). That is where the victory is. Nevertheless, we ignore the presence of the demonic at our peril.

‘Got Questions’ says this:

“There are two extremes in people’s thinking about demons. One says that what we call demons are nothing more than negative thoughts and behaviours that any human being is capable of. Those who hold this view believe that ‘deliverance’ from a ‘demon’ is brought about by the application of self-control; this view is usually accompanied by the discounting of anything supernatural. The other extreme says that any bad happening whatsoever is the work of demons. Those who hold this view often ‘rebuke’ everything from a common cold to a drop in the stock market. The correct emphasis on demonic deliverance lies somewhere between these two extremes. Scripture is clear that demons are real and that they interfere in human affairs. (Mt 12:43; Mk 1:26; Ac 8:7) Demons were very much at work in Bible times, and there is no reason to assume that demons are inactive now. (1Pe 5:8)

Prayer for Release From a Religious Spirit

The main order for deliverance from a religious spirit is intercessory prayer that will soften the hardened heart of those who are in bondage to the religious spirit so they can in humility be changed.

Then the religious spirit must be confronted in a process to repent, to renounce and to break all behaviour patterns influenced by this spirit.

Here is a list of statements that can be used for deliverance as the person(s) with Godly sorrow speak them with sincerity, humility and submission to:

1.  Repent And Renounce

Entry Points

I repent and renounce every opening, known or unknown in my generations that I have given to a religious spirit in my family line even back to the tenth generation.

I repent and renounce every opening, known and unknown in my personal life that I have given to a religious spirit, and every work of darkness connected with it.

Character of God

I repent for not fully receiving Your love, compassion, mercy, grace and forgiveness and I renounce any belief that You, Father are distant and judgmental.

I choose to embrace all aspects of Your character and to intimately know You.

I repent for allowing myself to be led by any other spirit than the Holy Spirit.

Relationships

I repent for relying on my own intellect in worship, praise, prayer, reading of the Word and spiritual Warfare.

I repent and renounce all legalism, traditions and religious formulas.

I repent and renounce all participation in dead works.

I repent and renounce all dullness to the things of God.

I repent and renounce hardness of heart

I choose for the oil of Your Holy Spirit to flow across my heart.

My Behaviour Patterns

I repent and renounce placing man’s opinion of me above Yours.

I repent and renounce compromises of the truth, of my integrity and of my purity.

I repent and renounce all compromises in my attitude toward sin.

I repent for my lack of transparency for covering sin, for not confessing sin, for not receiving correction for being defensive and quick to justify and rationalise my sin.

I repent and renounce all deception and hypocrisy.

I repent and renounce all pride, arrogance and self-righteousness.

I repent and renounce all comparison, judgment, criticism, gossip, jealousy, covetousness and anger.

I repent and renounce all persecution and slander of those moving in the Holy Spirit.

I repent and renounce every act of rebellion that has reinforced the spirit of religion in my life.

I choose to have obedience as my heart attitude.

I choose to no longer partner with the same spirit that killed Jesus and that continues to attempt to kill the work of the Holy Spirit today.

I choose to no longer oppose God.

2.     Break

In the name of Jesus:

I break every hex, curse or vow, every spell, incantation or ritual.

I break every covenant and blood covenant, every sacrifice and blood sacrifice.

I break every ungodly soul tie, every ungodly generational tie in my family line.

I break any other legal right, known or unknown, for the spirit of religion to stay.

Spirit of religion, as the Body of Christ, I and those with me come against you:

We refuse to allow you to steal our intimate relationship with our Lord.

We refuse to allow you to kill the flow of the Holy Spirit in us.

We refuse to allow you to destroy the anointing of others through us.

We choose to receive the anointing to break the power of the spirit of religion in the Church of Jesus Christ in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

3.     Proclaim The Lordship Prayer

Pray this prayer to invite Jesus to be the Lord and Master of each area of your life.

Even for some mature Christians, the only reason that the demons are still present in their lives is that Jesus is not Lord of one or more areas of their life.

Meditate on this prayer for each area of your life and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any hidden sin(s). Repent and confess these sins thereby closing the door to these evil spirits.

Then these spirits have no legal right to remain and they must go from you, (James 4: 7-10). Then a time of refreshing shall come upon you, (Acts 3:19-20).

Lord Jesus, I confess that I have sinned and I acknowledge my need of You.

I thank You for dying on the cross for me and I accept You as my Saviour.

I invite You now to be Lord of every area of my life:

Lord of my spirit, all of my worship and my relationship with You;

Lord of my mind, all my thoughts, all my attitudes and all my behaviour;

Lord of my emotions, all my feelings and all my reactions;

Lord of my will and all my decisions;

Lord of my body and all my physical health;

Lord of my eyes and all that I look upon;

Lord of my ears and all that I listen to;

Lord of my mouth and all that I speak;

Lord of my hands and all that I do;

Lord of my feet and everywhere that I go;

Lord of my sexuality and all its expression;

Lord of my family, my entire home, all my pleasure and all my relationships; Lord of my time, all my work and all my service for You;

Lord of my material goods, all my possessions, all my finances and all my needs.

Thank Jesus that Your blood was shed that I might be set free.

You and You alone are my Lord and Master, Amen.

Now that you have repented, renounced and broken all relationships with the spirit of religion and have proclaimed Jesus as Lord of every area of your life, walk in freedom with the Holy Spirit.

Alternative or Additional Prayer

Father, creator of heaven and earth, I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ your Son.

I come as a sinner seeking forgiveness and cleansing from all sins committed against you, and others made in your image.

I honour my earthly father and mother and all of my ancestors of flesh and blood, and of the spirit by adoption and godparents, but I utterly turn away from and renounce all their sins and iniquities.

I forgive all my ancestors for the effects of their sins on me and my children.

I confess and renounce all of my own sins, known or unknown.

I renounce Satan and his demons and every spiritual power of his affecting me and my family, in the name of Jesus Christ.

True Holy Creator God, in the name of the True Lord Jesus Christ, in accordance with Jude 8-10; Psalm 82:1 and 2 Chronicles 18, I request you to move aside all Celestial Beings, including Principalities, Powers and Rulers, and to forbid them to harass, intimidate or retaliate against me and all participants in this ministry today.

I also ask that you prevent these beings of whatever rank from sending any level of spiritual evil as retaliation against any of those here, or our families, our ministries, or our possessions.

I renounce and annul every covenant made with Death by my ancestors or myself, including every agreement made with Sheol, and I renounce the refuge of lies and falsehoods which have been hidden behind.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I repent and renounce every opening, known or unknown, that I or my ancestors have given to every spirit of Religion in my family line.

I repent and renounce every spirit of Religion or religious spirit, and every work of darkness connected with it.

I repent for not fully receiving your love, compassion, mercy, grace and forgiveness; and I renounce any belief that You, Lord, are distant and judgemental. I choose to embrace all aspects of Your character and to intimately know you.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I repent for allowing myself to be led by any other spirit than Your Holy Spirit.

I repent for relying on my own intellect in worship, praise, prayer, reading the Bible, God’s Word, and spiritual warfare.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I repent and renounce all legalism, traditions and religious formulas, and participation in dead works, dullness to the things of God, and hardness of heart.

I now choose to invite the Holy Spirit to lubricate my heart with His oil, and make it pliable to accommodate all the things God wants for me.

I repent and renounce every man’s opinion of me where this is different from the opinion of my Heavenly Father.

I repent and renounce all compromises, of the truth, of my integrity and of my purity.

I repent and renounce all compromises in my attitude towards sin.

I repent and renounce my lack of transparency for covering sin, not confessing sin, for not receiving correction, for being defensive and quick to justify and rationalise my sin.

I repent and renounce all deception and hypocrisy; all pride, arrogance and self-righteousness.

I repent and renounce all comparison, judgement, criticism, gossip, jealousy, covetousness, and anger.

I repent and renounce all persecution and slander of those moving in the Holy Spirit, especially those leaders God had placed in authority over me.

I repent and renounce every act of rebellion that has reinforced the spirit of religion in my life.

I choose now to have obedience to God and His Word as my attitude.

I choose to no longer partner with the same spirit which killed Jesus, and that continues to attempt to kill the work of the Holy Spirit today.

I come out of agreement with the enemies of the Most High God, and I choose to come into agreement with God my Father, with Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I now break every hex, curse, vow, every spell, incantation or ritual, every covenant, blood covenant, every sacrifice and blood sacrifice.

I break every ungodly soul tie, and every generational tie in my family bloodline which does not honour the Holy Spirit and His works.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I now break every other legal right, known or unknown, for the spirit of Religion to stay in my life, or in my family’s lives.

I speak now with the Body of Christ to every spirit of Religion, and we say to you we come against you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we rebuke you in His name, and we refuse to allow you to steal our intimate relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.

We refuse to allow you to kill the flow of the Holy Spirit in us, and in our congregations.

We refuse to allow you to destroy the anointing of the Holy Spirit through us.

We choose to receive the anointing to break the power of the spirit of Religion in the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Father, humbly for the blood of Jesus Christ, your Son and my Saviour, to cleanse me from all these sins I have confessed and renounced, to cleanse my spirit, my soul, my mind, my emotions and every part of my body which has been affected by these sins, in the name of Jesus Christ.

I also ask to receive the perfect love of God which casts out all fear, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I ask you, Lord, to fill me with your Holy Spirit now according to the promises in your Word.

I take to myself the whole armour of God in accordance with Ephesians Chapter 6, and rejoice in its protection as Jesus surrounds me and fills me with His Holy Spirit.

Prayer of Release From Fairy Tales, Nursery Rhymes and Childhood Stories Etc

Father, in the mighty name of your precious son Jesus Christ, I come before you to renounce the love of and break the power on my life of all fairy tales, nursery rhymes, childhood stories, novels, myths, legends, fables, chants, odes, poems, limericks, inappropriate jokes and jesting, riddles, games, old wives tales, superstition based mythologies and folklore, sayings, phrases, idioms and expressions, songs, music, movies, television programmes, cartoons, video and PC games, whether through the internet, the spoken word, books, writings, or teachings. I renounce and break their power in the name of Jesus.

I renounce particularly the love of any of those containing anything specifically cursed, such as wizards, witches, giants, fairies, goblins, leprechauns, gnomes, elves, pixies, imps, in pictures, dolls or puppets, or in any other forms, in the name of Jesus.

I renounce the love of mythical characters, monsters, mythical creatures, dragons, phoenixes, unicorns, satyrs or fauns, owls, frogs or other unclean animals and creatures of the night, or any and all types of mythical, fantasy or demonic characters which can open demonic doorways. in the name of Jesus.

I renounce the love of all superheroes such as ‘Superman’, ‘Spiderman’, ‘Batman’, ‘Captain America’, ‘Power Rangers’, ‘Masters of the Universe’, etc. [name here any specific characters] and anything violent or amoral, in the name of Jesus.

I especially renounce the love of any figures or images used which have connection with heathen worship which you have clearly said in your Word are an abomination to you. I acknowledge that often things which appear innocent have strong occult and idolatrous connections and I ask for your forgiveness in the name of Jesus.

I repent for buying and reading comics, magazines or annuals such as ‘Beano’, ‘Dandy’, ‘Topper’, ‘Eagle’, or ‘Rupert’ (wizardry) and other such publications in the name of Jesus.

I renounce the love of worldly entertainment such as movies, TV programmes, theatres, shows, plays, musicals, pantomimes, cartoons, puppet shows, magicians, circuses, fairs, carnivals, pagan celebrations and festivals (such as Morris dancing, May folk festivities, ‘Punch and Judy’, ) and whatsoever is not of God and does not glorify God, in the name of Jesus.

I renounce and break the power off my life of fairy stories and fables such as ‘Hans Christian Anderson’, ‘Brothers Grimm’, ‘Wizard of Oz’, ‘Peter Pan’, “Aesop’s fables”, and any other such children’s stories. I break their hold and cancel all their effects in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

In the name of Jesus, I renounce the love of any and all Walt Disney films promoting subtle and overt occult agendas, such as magic and witchcraft, disrespect of parents, transexual indoctrination and sexualisation of children, etc. (Any favourites can be mentioned by name, such as ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Bedknobs and Broomsticks’, ‘The Sword in the Stone’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Frozen’, etc.).

I break the power of any programming, conditioning, and mind control techniques that I or my family have been subjected to through Disney and other similar such characters, films, books, toys and other merchandise, in the name of Jesus.

I renounce the mythology of all these characters and stories and I break the power of any curses that have come into my life and that of my family due to the fascination of the mythical, mystical, and magical realms in the name of Jesus.

“Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.” (1 Cor 10:21)

I renounce these works of darkness and ask that your spirit will shed abroad the light of your love in my heart, in the name of Jesus. I know such things are snares, nets and traps to keep me under demonic influences.

I ask if you would please forgive me and deliver me and my family of any unholy influences which have come about through these associations and by the power of the blood of Jesus and by the power of his name, I bind and break their power.

In the name of Jesus, I ask for forgiveness for myself and my family for having wasted so much of my time and attention on these lying vanities and for any way I have allowed them to influence me.

I undertake to dispose of – destroy, not sell or give away – anything in my home, garden or workplace, that is unclean and so has been cursed by you, according to Deuteronomy 28, including any merchandise related to the above characters and stories.

I ask you please to close any demonic doorways which have been opened through disobeying your word, in the name of Jesus.

I ask that you would uproot all their effects on me or my family, in the name of Jesus.

Father, we thank you for giving us Your Son to destroy the works of the devil. Amen.

Caution is advised: This prayer is really only suitable for those who believe in Jesus Christ the Son of the God as their saviour. We need to be able to walk out our deliverance by turning away from idolatry and not turning back again. If we are living a godly life, with some prayer, praise, thanksgiving, repentance, forgiveness, and studying God’s word, we can get free and stay free of demonic harassment.

Jesus gave a stern warning about this in the form of a story sometimes referred to as “The man who swept his house clean” and also “The return of the evil spirit”:

“When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.” (Lk 11:23-26)

Seven Churches of Revelation

The seven churches described in Revelation 2-3 are seven literal churches at the time that John the apostle was writing Revelation. Though they were literal churches in that time, there is also spiritual significance for churches and believers today.

The first purpose of the letters was to communicate with the literal churches and meet their needs at that time. The second purpose is to reveal seven different types of individuals/churches throughout history and instruct them in God’s truth.

A possible third purpose is to use the seven churches to foreshadow seven different periods in the history of the Church. The problem with this view is that each of the seven churches describes issues that could fit the Church in any time in its history. So, although there may be some truth to the seven churches representing seven eras, there is far too much speculation in this regard. Our focus should be on what message God is giving us through the seven churches. [From: Got Questions.org Bible Questions]

Seven Churches of Revelation

The seven churches in KJV scripture

1. Ephesus (Revelation 2:2-6): “I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.”

2. Smyrna (Revelation 2:9-10): I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation 10 days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”

3. Pergamum (Revelation 2:13-16): “I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwells. But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate. Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.”

4. Thyatira (Revelation 19:23): “I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach [false doctrine] and to seduce my servants to commit fornication [friendship with the world – James 4:4], and to eat things sacrificed unto idols [having persons in admiration – Jude 16]. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.”

5. Sardis (Revelation 3:1-4): “I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.”

6. Philadelphia (Revelation 3:8-10): “I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.”

7. Laodicea (Revelation 3:15-19): “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”

The True Holy Spirit

We are not short of information in the Bible about the Holy Spirit as He is mentioned 261 times in the New Testament alone.

That is 56 times in the Gospels, 57 in the book of Acts, 112 in the Pauline epistles, and 36 in the remaining New Testament.

The Names and Titles of the Holy Spirit

Often in the Scripture one may learn much about someone simply by studying the names and titles given to that person. So it is with the Holy Spirit. The thirteen titles ascribed to him provide much insight into his true nature. He is Called:

“The Spirit of God” (ICo 3:16)

“The Spirit of Christ” (Ro 8:9)

“The eternal Spirit” (He 9:14)

“The Spirit of truth” (Jn 16:13)

“The Spirit of grace” (He 10:29)

“The Spirit of glory” (IPe 4:14)

“The Spirit of life” (Ro 8:2)

“The Spirit of wisdom and revelation” (Ep 1:17)

“The Comforter” (Jn 14:26)

“The Spirit of promise” (Ac 1:4-5)

“The Spirit of adoption” (Ro 8:15)

“The Spirit of holiness” (Ro 1:4)

“The Spirit of faith” (2Co 4:13)

Descriptions of the Holy Spirit

Like the thirteen names and titles, his six descriptions indicate his nature and mission

Fire: Presence, approval, protection, purifying, gift, judgment (Ex 3:2, Le 9:24, Ex 13:21, Is 6:1-8, Ac 2:3, He 12:29)

Water: Life and cleansing (Is 43:3, Jn 7:37-39)

Wind: Unseen power (Ac 2:1-2, Jn 3:8)

Oil: Light, healing, and anointing for service (Lk 4:18, Ac 10:38)

Dove: Purity, peace, and modesty  (Jn 1:32, Ps 56:6)  [NB. the ‘kamikaze’ dove is a ‘secret’ occult symbol]

Seal: Ownership, finished transaction, identification, security, genuineness, value, authority (Ep 1:13, 4:30, 2Co 1:22)

Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit

“But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.” (Jn 16:5-12)

Who is the Holy Spirit?

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew unto you.” (Jn 16:13-15)

“Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.” (Ac 13:1-2)

He is God – equal with the Father and the Son

“But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.” (Ac 5:3-4)

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” (Mt 28:19)

“While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.” (Ac 10:19-20)

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”  (1Co 3:16)

“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” (He 9:14)

“But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.” (Mt 12:28)

What is the relationship between God and the Holy Spirit?

He is the one through whom God does all that is in his heart to do

In creating and sustaining the world

“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” (Ge 1:2-3)

“O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.” (Ps 104:24)

“Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.” (Ps 104:30)

In guiding the writers of Scripture

“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (2Pe 1:19-21)

In providing the Saviour

Mary was told: “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” (Lk 1:35)

Joseph was told: “But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Mt 1:20-21)

In bringing new truth

“Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” (Jn 3:5-8)

“And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:” (Jn 16:8)

“But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;” (Ti 3:4-6)

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (Ge 2:7)

“By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.” (Ps 33:6)

“The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.” (Jo 33:4)

“Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.” (1Pe 1:10-12)

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.” (Mt 1:18)

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.” (Jn 6:63-65)

What is the relationship between the Holy Spirit and God’s people?

He is the one who came upon God’s servants in the Old Testament for specific tasks

“And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee. And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.” (Nu 11:16-17)

“And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother. And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the LORD delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim.” (Ju 3:9-10)

“Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.” (1Sa 16:13)

He is the one the prophets said would come and live in the Saviour when God was going to send:

“And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;” (Is 11:2)

“I Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.” (Is 42:1)

This was fulfilled in Jesus Christ

“Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.” (Lk 3:21-22)

“And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. (Lk 4:14-21)

He is the one the prophets said would come to live in all God’s people

“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.” (Ez 36:26-27)

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.” (Jl 2:28-29)

“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.” (Ex 31:1-5)

“Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel. But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him.” (Ju 6:33-34)

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.” (Is 61:1-3)

“And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.” (Jn 1:32-34)

“The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” (Ac 10:36-38)

“For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:” (Is 44:3)

“As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.” (Is 59:21)

When did the Holy Spirit come to live in God’s people?

Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit when he left this world

“Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.” (Jn 16:7)

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” (Jn 14:16-17)

The Holy Spirit came at Pentecost

“And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.” (Lk 24:49)

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Ac 2:1-4)

“Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:” (Ac 2:22-23)

“The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.” (Ac 1:1-5)

Who receives the Holy Spirit?

God gives the Holy Spirit to those who turn from their sin and put their faith in Jesus Christ

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.” (Ac 2:38-39)

“To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,” (Ac 10:43-46)

“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” (Ep 1:13-14)

The Holy Spirit cannot be bought or earned

“And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.” (Ac 8:18-22)

“This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish?  Having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?” (Ga 3:2-5)

“That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Ga 3:14)

“The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.” (Ac 5:30-32)

“Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.” (Ac 8:14-17)

“And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.” (Ac 11:15-18)

“And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.” (Ac 19:1-6)

What happens when God’s people are filled with the Holy Spirit?

They know they are God’s children

“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.” (Ga 4:6)

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” (Ro 8:14-16)

They understand spiritual things

“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (1Co 2:9-14)

They have insight into the scriptures

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (Jn 14:26)

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” (2Ti 3:16-17)

They are helped to pray

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” (Ep 6:18)

“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” (Ro 8:26-27)

They live to please God

“For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” (Ro 8:5-10)

They become more like Jesus Christ

“Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2Co 3:17-18)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Ga 5:22-23)

“Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.” (1Jn 4:13)

“This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (1Jn 5:6-12)

“If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:” (Ep 3:2-6)

“But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.” (1Jn 2:20)

“And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.” (Ep 2:17-18)

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” (Ro 8:1-4)

“Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.” (1Th 4:1-8)

“But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.” (Is 63:10)

“He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad. Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.” (Mt 12:30-32)

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” (Co 3:1-14)

How can we go on being filled with the Holy Spirit?

We have to want to be filled with all our heart

“To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah. As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?” (Ps 42:1-2)

“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)” (Jn 7:37-39)

We have to give him every part of ourselves

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” (Mt 22:37)

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1Co 6:19-20)

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” (Ro 12:1)

We have to ask God to fill us

“And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” (Lk 11:9-13)

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. These things I command you, that ye love one another.” (Jn 15:1-17)

How does the Holy Spirit help the Church as a body?

He unites the people of God

“For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” (1Co 12:12-13)

“I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” (Ep 4:1-6)

He helps us to worship the Lord Jesus

“Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.” (1Co 12:2-3)

“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;” (Ep 5:15-20)

He gives us power to witness about Jesus Christ

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (Ac 1:8)

“And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.” (Ac 4:31-33)

He gives power to the preaching of the Gospel

“And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” (1Co 2:1-5)

“Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God. For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.” (1Th 1:4-5)

He brings God’s gifts to make the Church strong to do God’s work

“But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.” (Ep 4:7)

“And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:” (Ep 4:11-13)

“Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ro 15:5-6)

“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.” (Jn 17:20-23)

“And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them, Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide. Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand. And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes, And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this? Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.” (Ac 4:1-14)

“And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen. And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.” (Ac 6:8-10)

“For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.” (Ro 1:11-12)

What are the gifts the Holy Spirit brings?

They are many and varied, and some are mentioned directly

“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.” (Ro 12:6-8)

“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:” (1Co 12:7-10)

“And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.” (1Co 12:28)

Are there gifts for all God’s people?

“Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.” (1Co 12:4-6)

“But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.” (1Co 12:11)

Everyone has at least one gift

“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.” (1Co 12:7)

“For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;” (Ro 12:4-6)

Every member in the Church is different

“For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. And if they were all one member, where were the body? But now are they many members, yet but one body.” (1Co 12:14-20)

All are needed

“And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:” (1Co 12:21-22)

“For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked: That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.” (1Co 12:24-27)

We should seek to use our gifts to help the Church to grow

“Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.” (1Co 14:12)

“But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.” (1Co 12:31)

“Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.” (1Co 13:8)

“Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.” (1Co 14:1)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Ga 5:22-25)

“For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.” (1Co 7:7)

“Do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” (Ja 1:16-17)

How are God’s gifts to be used?

With humility, with order, with wisdom – not selfishly

“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” (1Pe 4:10-11)

“How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.” (1Co 14:26-33)

“Let all things be done decently and in order.” (1Co 14:40)

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” (Co 3:15-17)

“Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil.” (1Th 5:19-22)

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.” (1Jn 4:1-3)

What is the heart of all this?

Firstly, we must be….

(1) Born of the spirit:

“The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” (Jn 3:8)

And then:

(2) Be filled with the Spirit:

“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;” (Ep 5:1)

(3) Keep in step with the spirit:

“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Ga 5:25)

(4)  Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God:

“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” (Ep 4:30)

(5) Live by the Spirit:

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” (Ga 5:16)

“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” (2Co 13:14)

What does it mean to grieve or to quench the Spirit?

[From: Got Questions] The Greek word translated as “grieve” in Ephesians 4:30 means “to cause to feel sorrow, pain, unhappiness, or distress.” As the third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit has a personality and the ability to feel emotions like joy (Luke 10: 21), outrage (Hebrews 10:29, ESV), and sorrow (Ephesians 4:30, NLT).

In Acts 7:51, Stephen condemns “resisting” the Spirit, and in 1 Thessalonians 5:19, Paul instructs believers not to “quench” the Spirit. But the only time “grieving” the Spirit is mentioned in the New Testament is here in Ephesians 4:30. Paul’s command not to grieve the Spirit seems to be inspired by two Old Testament verses that speak of God’s Spirit being “distressed,” “grieved” (Isaiah 63:9–10), and “made bitter” (Psalm 106:33, ESV). In both Isaiah 63:9–10 and Ephesians 4:30, grieving the Holy Spirit is associated with God’s people having an inappropriate response to His redemption.

“Do not grieve the Spirit” appears to complement Paul’s opening exhortation to “live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:1–3). Believers grieve the Spirit when they do not maintain peace and harmony in the body of Christ.

Paul then gives specific ways we grieve the Spirit by living as we used to before our salvation when we were “separated from the life of God” (Ephesians 4:17–19). We grieve Him when we don’t speak truthfully to our brothers and sisters in Christ (Ephesians 4:25), when we let anger control our actions (4:26–27), when we steal from each other (4:28) and when we speak foul and abusive words to one another, instead of uplifting and encouraging words (4:29). We also grieve the Spirit when we don’t “get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior” (Ephesians 4:31, NLT), and when we fail to “be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:32, NLT).

The Holy Spirit of God lives within the Christian (John 14:172 Timothy 1:14). We are His temple (1 Corinthians 3:16), and when we don’t walk in the holiness and love of Christ and in harmony with fellow believers, we grieve the Spirit of God with our sinful thoughts and behaviors (Ephesians 5:1–21).

Grieving the Holy Spirit is similar to “quenching” the Holy Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19) in that both negatively impact the believer, the church, and the world. Quenching the Spirit speaks of stifling or suppressing the fire of God’s Spirit that burns within every believer. The Holy Spirit desires to express Himself in our actions and attitudes. When we do not allow God’s Spirit to be seen in our behavior, when we do what we know is wrong, we suppress or quench the Spirit. We do not allow the Spirit to reveal Himself as He wants to, with “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” (Galatians 5:22–23).

Both quenching the Spirit and grieving the Spirit hinder a godly lifestyle. Both happen when we sin against God and follow our own worldly desires, living as we did before accepting Christ’s salvation. The only correct road to follow is the one that leads the believer closer to God and purity and farther away from the world and sin. Just as we do not like to be grieved, and just as we do not seek to quench what is good, we should not quench or grieve the Holy Spirit by refusing to follow His leading. [From: Got Questions]

What Is a Stronghold?

One definition of a stronghold is set of beliefs or collection of ideas, information and knowledge about experiences which is not of God and so cannot be the truth, and therefore it consists of lies and so needs to be discarded.

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (2 Cor 10:5)

A demonic stronghold can be likened to a hidden fortress, which needs to be identified, and pulled down, dismantled, broken up, demolished:

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;” (2 Cor 10:4)

In a way it is simple: a stronghold is just that – a ‘strong hold’.  It is simple on the face of it, yet demonic strongholds are a common cause of blocks to deliverance. Reading some of the numerous articles on the subject can be helpful to come to a clear understanding of how they work.

For example, a stronghold is a hidden fortress so that even someone who knows about strongholds may be oblivious to their own. This can prevent someone from realizing that they need deliverance. To be delivered, as in salvation, is to be set free from bondage which is a form of stronghold.

Scripture tells us that Satan and his demons never come but to steal, kill and destroy. Yet it is astonishing how many people do listen to, believe and even trust demons without realizing that is what they are doing. This can often be due to strongholds that they don’t even  realise are there.

Devils are liars and deceivers, so it can only be dangerous to listen to them. No matter what they may tell us, or what we believe, they will always betray us in the end. So if we are used to listening to demons, even without realizing it, by whatever mechanism and for whatever reason, then that is in itself a form of stronghold they have in us.

God’s word tells us to give no place to the devil.  Not some place, or just a little place, but no place. The Bible also tells us to hate evil, like God does. That’s why it’s crucial that we learn not to listen to anything or anyone who says anything that does not line up with what God says in His word.

Demons can put thoughts in our head because they can mimic our voice. They know what we have been through, what our weaknesses are, what appeals to us and what doesn’t.  They know exactly how to worm (pun intended) their way into our hearts and minds to get to think along the lines that they want us to and believe what they are saying.

That is why it is so important to study the Bible, because once we learn what God says in his word, then we will automatically know when we are listening to demons when we hear them saying something different to what the Bible says. We will also now how to counter the lies of demons. When Jesus was tempted by the devil, each of the three times, Jesus responded: “It is written….”

If you realise that you have been unwittingly listening to the lies of demons, repent and stop listening to them. Start listening only to what God has said in His word and believe Him because God never lies.

Many Christians believe that they do not need deliverance, that demons cannot get to them, influence or harass them in any way.  That counters God’s word and therefore indicates a stronghold of pride and is in fact ‘a vain imagination’ which needs to be taken down because it exalts itself against the word of God.

Jesus told us to pray in the Lord’s Prayer: “Deliver us from evil.”  Christians are not automatically delivered from demonic harassment. If they were, there would be no need to repeatedly ask God to deliver us from evil.

Whether anyone believes the account in Genesis of the Fall of Man in the Garden of Eden is a true story, or not, it is undeniable that there is much we can learn from the story. Sin came about because Eve listened to what Lucifer told her, that she should doubt God’s word when the serpent said:”Yay, hath God said?”

Instead of listening to what God had told her, Eve chose not only to disobey and rebel against God but to believe that God may not have told them the truth, that God had lied to them. We play with fire when we listen to the lies of demons – just as Eve did in the garden – instead of listening to what God has told us in the Bible which are words of life.

Can a Born-Again Christian Have a Demon?

Absolutely yes, ask any experienced minister and they will tell you. That is unless they are a cessationist.

It is true that many of the demon-slaying type ‘deliverance ministries’ today are not teaching the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27) and any such ministry should be avoided.

If you are not sure what to think about whether we are to cast out demons today, or not, there are two articles on this site Casting Out Demons and Refutation of Claims made by Cessationists with many scripture references. There are many more articles available on the internet on the subject of “Can a Christian have a demon?”

There are also many dozens – if not hundreds – of Christians testimonies available on the internet where believers – and sometimes their children – relate their experiences of needing deliverance after they were saved.

While there is no shortage of scripture that can be used to prove that a Christian can have a demon, one would be hard-pressed to use scripture to prove that a Christian cannot have a demon.

There are many scriptures that specifically mention casting out demons as per the following list:

What scripture says

The New Testament mentions Jesus casting out evil spirits 55 times and describes events in detail 5 times. According to Bible prophecy, demonic activity will not cease but rather continue to increase until Jesus returns. (Mt 24; Re chs 6 – 9)

There are a number of scriptures that tell us, even so, the outer courts of the temple can be defiled. For example, when heathens were worshipping in the outer courts of the temple, or when Jesus drove out the money-changers from the temple. Demons cannot dwell in a genuine believer’s spirit, which is sealed by God, but they can inhabit the mind, the heart, and (uncrucified) flesh.

Concerning this, I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might leave me;” (2 Co 12:7-8)

The primary way demons attack Christians is through temptation – especially to believe false doctrine. We can be led into temptation as a test of faith, even as the spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil, even though he was without sin. Jesus urged us to strongly resist temptation. In the Lord’s Prayer, he told us to ask God not to lead us into temptation but to give us deliverance from evil. We are told to resist the devil. (Ja 4:7)

Demons are knowledgeable but evil spirits, and they do not have to be inside someone to affect or influence them. Even a believer can suffer demonic oppression if he lets down his guard and allows his thoughts, actions, or attitudes to be influenced. We know from scripture that demons work together, and that is why scripture strongly urges us to give them NO place. (Mt 12:45)

“Neither give place to the devil.” (Ep 4:27) [Do not give some place, or a little place, but give NO place.] Other versions say: “Do not give the devil a foothold.” Or “Do not give the devil an opportunity.”

“Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” (2 Co 2:11)

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:” (1Pe 5:8) Other versions say: ”Be alert”, “Be watchful”, “Be clear-minded”, “Be on guard”.

Evidence from scripture proves that believers can be afflicted, beguiled, bewitched, blinded, blocked, bound, compelled, deceived, distracted, driven, enchanted, entangled, enticed, harassed, influenced, intimidated, misled, oppressed, seduced, stalked, tormented, traumatised, troubled, weakened, and worried.

We know from scripture that demons have weapons, including especially weapons of deception, and that is why we need the armour of God (Ep 6). Demons can assault, corrupt, debase, defile, degrade, demean, denigrate, desecrate, destroy, detract, devalue, devour, diminish, disable, discredit, disrupt, distort, disturb, divide, downgrade, enslave, entrap, fragment, frighten, kill, pervert, pursue, steal, stifle, twist and, particularly, cause false doctrine to be taught.

Warnings given to believers

Paul warns us to resist the devil, be on our guard, and give no place to the devil. Those who abide in denial, would be wise to take heed of what the Bible says in this regard and in many other such scriptures:

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ep 6:12)

Scripture is the best defence

As Christians, we should wear the whole armour of God as per Ephesians 6 to protect us from all the fiery darts of the devil. All those who deny the wise admonition and advice of scripture are giving place to the devil and his demons to do their work. Even Jesus himself was tempted three times in the wilderness by Satan.

According to Cessationists, there is no need to cast out demons from anyone

Cessationists claim that believers do not need to have demons cast out of them because scripture says believers have been cleansed by our belief in Jesus. Some claim that when Jesus said: ‘It is finished’ that meant he did it all so that believers do not now need to do anything. Or we just need to use one or two scriptures like this – a belief which would in itself contradict many other scriptures:

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (Ja 4:7)

If it were true that only non-believers need deliverance, not believers – then how are we to explain the parable of the man who swept his house clean?

“When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, I will return unto my house whence I came out. And when he comes, he finds it swept and garnished. Then he goes and takes to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”
(Lk 11:24-26)

According to this parable, we should not cast demons out of non-believers as they will not have the Holy Spirit, and so their situation would be worse than it was before the demons were cast out. Then the question arises, who should have demons cast out of them? No one – not non-believers or believers either? So then, according to them, demons should be left to operate freely and unhindered? How does that work when demons have not ceased to operate, and scripture tells us demonic activity is set to greatly increase in the Last Days?

The Seven Sons of Sceva

Can a Christian be demon-possessed?

Herein lies much of the confusion. ‘Having’ demons and being ‘possessed’ by demons are entirely different matters. Possession denotes ownership. A Christian belongs to Christ. He has been purchased by the precious blood of Jesus. (1Co 6:19, 20) The King James Bible, and a few other versions, have translated the Greek word daimonizomai as ‘demon
possessed’, whereas the word specifically means ‘to act under the control of demons’.

‘Those who were thus afflicted expressed the mind and consciousness of the demon or demons indwelling them’ (Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words). Christians can be influenced and controlled by demons who indwell them, but demons cannot ‘possess’ (own) a Christian. Demons dwelling in Christians are trespassers without ownership rights; therefore, they are subject to eviction in the authority of the Name of the One who has redeemed such believers unto Himself by His blood. (1 Pe 1:18)

Some have questioned, ‘How can an evil spirit dwell in a person who has the Holy Spirit within him?’ The answer is made clear by remembering that ‘your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit’. (1Co 6:19) The Temple in Jerusalem had three parts: Outer Court, Holy Place, and Holy of Holies. The presence of God dwelt solely in the Holy of Holies. The three compartments in the Temple correspond to man’s tripartite being: body, soul, and spirit. For the Christian, the human spirit corresponds to the Holy of Holies, which is the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit desires us to submit every area of our ‘temple’ to His control. Other temple areas include the mind, the emotions, the will, and the physical body.

Jesus found defilement in the Jerusalem temple; however, the moneychangers and the merchants with doves and cattle were not in the Holy of Holies, but in the outer courts of the temple. Jesus proceeded to ‘cast out’ all who defiled the temple. (Mt 21:12)

This is a perfect analogy for deliverance. Defilement is not in the spirit of a Christian but in the ‘outer courts’ of his mind, emotions, and body. There can be defilement in the Outer Court while the presence of the Lord remains in the Holy of Holies. Jesus is highly displeased with such a condition. He wants His temple cleansed and every defiling demon cast out.

Let’s expose the most common argument against believers having demons

They say that light cannot dwell with darkness. This is merely an assumption with no real Biblical basis. The verse most often used to back up this theory is 2Co 6:14, and it is speaking about believers marrying unbelievers. Is it saying that light ‘cannot’ dwell with darkness? No, it is asking what communion (partnership) light can have with darkness. In other words, is a non-believer going to have the same spiritual goals in life as a believer? No. How can they partner if they don’t have anything in common spiritually? Are demons and God going to work together in a person’s life? No. Can the two coexist? Yes!

Another good question is, can a Christian be in bondage to pornography? Lust? Is a Christian capable of even committing sin at all? If so, then how can that kind of darkness (sin), which God absolutely repels, dwell in a body where the Holy Ghost is? Or how can the Holy Ghost remain in a human being who is capable of sinning, and does so from time to time?

Another point is that the Holy Spirit covers the earth (Je 23:24), so if the Holy Spirit covers the earth, then how can darkness (demons and sin) freely roam this earth if the Holy Spirit is covering it? And if Satan will not approach the presence of God, then how did Satan tempt Jesus in the desert? And visit heaven to talk with God concerning Job?

We are composed of three parts

A body, a mind (soul), and a spirit. (1Th 5:23) The spirit of a man belongs to God, and their spirit is united with the Holy Spirit, but their bodies and minds (souls) can still be afflicted by evil spirits. Just like you can turn a light on in one room, and the next room in the house can be dark, the same is true in the spirit realm.

The soul versus the spirit

The spirit of a man is where the Holy Ghost dwells, but the soul or mind of a man is where dirt can still remain long after he or she accepts Christ. We are told to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (souls) through the Word of God. Our spirits are instantly made new the moment we are saved, but our souls can take time to renew and ‘clean up’.

Where demons do their work

I do not believe a demon can touch the spirit of a man after he’s accepted Jesus, but where demons do their work is in the soul or mind. How do you see demons affecting people in the Bible? Through their mind (the lunatic boy, the man with the legion, etc.), and their physical body (the woman with the spirit of infirmity, the man who couldn’t speak because of a demon, etc.). Demons can try to get our spirits overwhelmed, worn out, or tempt us to sin, but their way of operating in our lives is through our minds (souls) and by troubling our physical bodies.

Demonic bondage demystified

What demons do to people

Many people believe that only the extreme cases of mental problems are caused by demons, or that you have to be heavily involved in the occult or Satanism to have demons, but the Bible is clear that this is not true. The Bible speaks of perfectly sane people who have been crippled by demons. It is perfectly normal to have absolutely no demons affecting your mind in any way, and still have a demon. The Bible speaks of people who were perfectly sane, who Jesus cast spirits of deafness or dumbness, even blindness or infirmities out of (Lk 13:11, Mk 9:25, Mt 12:22)!

What it means to be possessed by a demon

Another misconception is that a person who is demon possessed is owned and fully operated by a demon. This is not true either. As I pointed out earlier, you can be perfectly sane, and yet have a demon. The word possessed in the NT Greek actually means to be under the power of a demon or to have a demon. This is like being under the power or influence of alcohol; the more you drink, the more you come under its power. The same is true with demonic bondage; the more bondage you are in, the more you will come under that demon’s influence or power.

The Bible makes it clear that there are different kinds of demons that cause different problems for the person to whom they dwell. Some demons cause blindness, others cause deafness, others cause madness (mental illness), others cause fear and depression (King Saul), others cause epilepsy (Mt 17:15-21), and so forth. Therefore, if a person is under the power of a spirit of blindness, they won’t see (Mt 12:22), if they are under the power of a spirit of infirmity, they will have some sort of physical infirmity (Lk 13:11), if they are under the power of a spirit of fear, they will be fearful, or if they are under the power of a spirit of anger, they will have uncontrollable anger.

Can a Christian have a demon?

If the word ‘possessed’ refers to ownership, then absolutely not! Can a Christian have a demon? Yes, but not be owned by one. I believe the meaning of this word has changed from those days, and the modern English version is not the correct term to use for somebody who has a demon. A Christian can have a demon, just as they can have a sickness or disease. Many sicknesses and diseases for that matter, are caused by a demon.

Saying that a Christian can be possessed is like saying that a person’s body is owned by an infection on that person’s finger. The infection may “influence” the body, but it does not mean that it “owns” the body. The same is true here: while a Christian can have a demon and be in bondage (influenced), it does not mean that the person is owned by the demon.

Demons can invade the soul and body of a believer (if given the ‘rights’, of course), but not the spirit (the real you), because the spirit belongs to the Lord. The soul is where your thoughts, emotions, and thinking are done. Demons can cause fear, depression, lust, uncontrollable anger, and other iniquities in the soul, and sickness and diseases in the body.

To answer the question in a nutshell, it doesn’t matter who you are (whether a believer or a non-believer), if you’ve given the enemy rights to your soul or body, then you are up for a spiritual infection that can result in demonic bondage. There are certain sins and things that a person can do, which can defile (make unclean) the person. When a person is defiled, they are unclean and therefore vulnerable to a spiritual infection, and the ‘germs’ in this realm are demons.

How do demons gain access into the believer?

“He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him”. (Ec 10:8) There is a hedge of protection around God’s people, but if there’s a hole in that hedge, it can open the door to the enemy, and we can get bitten.

Paul warned the believers in Ep 4:27, “Neither give place to the devil”. Also, 2 Co 2:11 tells us, “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices”.

Either the demon(s) were there before the person came to Christ (past lifestyle, generational curse, bondages they previously came under, vows they made with the enemy, etc.), or it entered since they became a Christian. If the demon came into the person’s life before they accepted Christ, then the demon is likely trespassing because he has no real legal right to be there, and simply needs to be cast out (as Jesus did in Mt 8:16-17). The way demons gain access to a believer’s life is through open doors. There are certain sins and things we can do that will defile us (make us unclean). For example, having unholy sex can create unholy soul ties, which serve as demonic bridges, and can pass bondages from one person to another. Another example is being bitter or unforgiving; both of those are closely related and can defile a person. (He 12:15)

Either way, the open door (if any) needs to be shut, and the demons cast out. Just because the enemy may not have legal rights, doesn’t mean he always leaves immediately. Even though Jesus paid the price for our iniquities (Is 53:5), it doesn’t mean the demons won’t want to hang around until they are actually kicked out. If demons left automatically when their rights were removed, then there would be no need to cast them out. Sometimes, though, they do leave without being told, but that’s not always the case. In Mt 8:16-17, it tells us how Jesus fulfilled the prophecy of Him taking on our iniquities/infirmities… it was by the actual casting out of demons.

There are many verses in the NT where it talks about being defiled. What does it mean to be defiled? It means to become unclean, to become polluted or dirty. To become unclean means that the object must first be clean, or you couldn’t make it dirty. You could make it more dirty, but you could not make it dirty because it was already dirty. To be defiled means to take something that was clean, and make it dirty. This is why Christians need to heed the warnings that Jesus gave, not to do those things which can defile a man. It can take a clean Christian and make him unclean, therefore vulnerable to spiritual infections (demonic influence).

A lot of people like to believe that we cannot be touched by the enemy, which if we keep ourselves clean and stick in God’s ways, we can be “untouchable” by the enemy, BUT if we step outside the lines of protection and get ourselves dirty, we are practically begging for a spiritual infection which can lead to demonic influence and bondage.

The dangers of casting a demon out of a non-believer

“When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation”. (Mt 12:43-45)

Jesus said that when a demon leaves a person, it likes to come back with 7 more even worse demons, and it is permitted if that person is part of the wicked generation (sinners/unbelievers). Casting a demon out of an unbeliever is not a wise idea. It is wise to first lead the person to Jesus, so that there is a protection upon them to keep the demon(s) from coming back.

Another thing to consider is that trying to cast a demon out when he has ‘legal rights’ in that person’s life can be dangerous. Demons can manifest and physically get very violent, and cause bodily harm to both the victim and the nearby people. It is a good idea to cut off the demon’s legal grounds in the person before attempting to cast a demon out.

Some demons CANNOT get shed (or cast out) without prayer and fasting

Mk 9:17-29 tells us of a story of the disciples trying to cast a demon out of a child. They were unsuccessful, so the boy was brought to Jesus, and He cast it out, but also told us that this kind of demon (a very strong demon) ONLY comes out through prayer and fasting!

“And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by NOTHING, but by prayer and fasting”. (Mk 9:29)

If Jesus said that prayer and fasting is required, believe me, it won’t be coming out with a quick nudge, much less when a person simply accepts Jesus and doesn’t do what He told us to do!

Jesus was saying that it requires a lot of faith to cast these demons out… how you get such faith is through prayer and fasting… if His disciples didn’t have enough faith to cast it out, what makes us think the average believer has enough faith (without prayer and fasting) to cast it out?

“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked”. (Ep 6:16)

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you”. (Mt 17:17-20)

Deliverance is part of the atonement and New Covenant

Let’s take a close look at Is 53:5, where it prophecies about some of the things that Jesus will do for us, “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities (this is for your deliverance): the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed“. Do you think this verse was talking about things that Jesus did for unbelievers? Did He shed His blood for the sins of unbelievers (providing they stay in their unbelief of course)? Did His stripes pay for the healing of unbelievers? What about the chastisement of our peace being upon Him? Was that for unbelievers? What should make us think that Him taking on our iniquities was for the unbelievers? Where does it say that Jesus took the iniquities of the unbelievers?

Once in a while, it is possible to come across a non-believer who was healed, but it was out of God’s mercy that He healed them. Believers are healed out of the covenant, and therefore have something to hold their healing, whereas unbelievers are healed out of mercy and can lose their healing. The same is true with deliverance. Jesus made it clear that when a demon comes out of an unbeliever (wicked generation), it will only return with 7 more evil spirits even worse than itself! (Mt 12:43-45)

Mt 8:16-17, “When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses“.

If deliverance was part of the atonement and new covenant, then it is meant for believers! But note that even though an iniquity can be forgiven, it doesn’t mean the demon automatically leaves. Jesus still cast the demon out in fulfilling the prophecy in this situation.

Notice Mt 8:16 says that Jesus fulfilled the prophecy that He paid for our deliverance, but also notice how He still had to ‘cast out’ the demon! It didn’t leave automatically. The fulfillment of that prophecy was demonstrated by the actual casting out of a demon(s)!

We, as believers, are commissioned to do the same thing concerning demons: Mk 16:17, “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues“.

I strongly believe that deliverance is not for unbelievers, but for believers. It is not meant to provide relief to the world’s problems, but to bring freedom to the believer who may be struggling with bondages from his past.

Some major flaws in opposing theologies

There are some people who recognize the reality of the demonic realm and see the need for the casting out of demons, but they don’t believe that Christians can have demons. They believe that only unbelievers need demons cast out. This sounds tickling to the ears, but doesn’t hold up in reality. Some very simple logic will dissolve this false belief.

Demons like to return to the wicked generation (sinners/unbelievers) with 7 more even worse demons (Mt 12:43-45), therefore, it is very risky, dangerous, and unproductive to cast a demon out of an unbeliever. The only way to be safe is to first lead the person to accept Jesus, then there is a layer of protection there to help keep the demon(s) from returning. Otherwise, you’re just sticking your hand in a hornet’s nest and stirring up trouble. If a demon is interfering with the person coming to Jesus, then it is time to bind the demon (Mt 16:19), minister to the person’s need for salvation (bring them to accept Jesus), and then cast the demons out.

There is an obvious need for casting out demons (Mk 16:17, Mt 8:16-17), so who are we to cast them out of, if it is so risky and unsafe to cast them out of unbelievers? Not to mention, unproductive and detrimental if they don’t come to Jesus shortly after they are delivered! And if people shed their demons when they become a Christian, then why worry about casting them out at all, if they will leave automatically? If people shed their demons when they accepted Christ, then why not just bring them to Christ? This would defeat the whole purpose of the deliverance ministry. Which would be saying that the early church (which was very active in the casting out of devils) was wasting its time, and would make no sense that Jesus said that those who believe would ‘cast out demons’!

Deliverance and healing were paid for in the same verses (Is 53:5, Mt 8:16-17), but a lot of Christians are walking around sick, and many others are being tormented. Why? Because these two things are received by faith! The price was paid for us to be set free, but if we don’t believe it and stand on it, we can miss out on the fruits of what Jesus did for us! The same thing is true with healing!

I have seen way too many Christians being demonically tormented and in bondage to say that it can’t happen. I myself have been a Christian since a young kid, was raised in a Godly home with two great parents, yet I’ve experienced demonic bondage too.

Biblical example of Jesus casting a demon out of a believer

Before we begin, let’s take a quick look at what Jesus considers a child of Abraham:

Jn 8:39-40 makes it very clear who is qualified to be called Children of Abraham in Jesus’ opinion: “They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham. But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham“. (In other words, if you aren’t doing the works of Abraham, then you aren’t his child. He directly said that they were not Abraham’s children because they did not share in the faith.)

Look at what Jesus called the man who became a believer in Lk 19:9, “And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham“. To have Jesus call somebody a child of Abraham was quite an honor! It meant that the person was a child of Abraham by faith, which means they were a believer.

Also look at Ro 2:28-29, “For you are not a true Jew just because you were born of Jewish parents or because you have gone through the Jewish ceremony of circumcision. No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not a cutting of the body but a change of heart produced by God’s Spirit. Whoever has that kind of change seeks praise from God, not from people“. (NLT)

Jesus said that the children of Abraham do what Abraham did. (Jn 8:39) What did Abraham do? Ga 3:6, “…Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness“. To believe in God means to believe in Jesus as well, because the two cannot be separated! If you reject the Son, you also reject the Father. (1Jn 2:22-23) Jesus made it clear that the true children of Abraham are full-blown believers!

In Lk 13:11, 16, it says, “And, behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?”

A few things I would like to point out, first, she was in the church hearing Jesus’ teachings just moments before He loosed her. When He called her a daughter of Abraham, He made it clear that she was a very special person. He rebuked the Pharisees for calling themselves children of Abraham, but He honored this woman for it. In His opinion, she was a true daughter of Abraham, which meant she shared in Abraham’s faith. She was a believer.

Let me briefly summarize this:

(a) Jesus said in order to be a child of Abraham, you must do as Abraham did.  (Jn 8:39)

(b) What did Abraham do? He believed on God. (Ga 3:6)

(c) You cannot believe on the Father and reject the Son; it is impossible. (1Jn 2:22-23)

(d) Jesus said that this woman was truly a child of Abraham. (Lk 13:16)

Jesus Himself told us of the requirements for what it takes to be a child of Abraham, so if He didn’t judge her by those requirements, He would be contradicting Himself. Judged by His opinion (which is not just any opinion, but a FACT and TRUTH), He labeled this woman as a child of Abraham. To refute that she was a believer would be trying to argue with Jesus, because that’s what He said, and He made it very clear that those who don’t believe aren’t really children of Abraham.

Biblical example of a believer being set free from a curse

“And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in [her] body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked round about to see who had done this thing. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague (curse)”. (Mk 5:25-34)

There was a woman who had an issue of blood as a result of a curse (the KJV refers to it as a plague, which is the same thing as a curse), and though she believed in Jesus, she was released from it when she acted upon her faith and touched the hem of His garment.

It is obvious that she didn’t just believe Jesus for her healing/deliverance, but also for her salvation, because Jesus referred to her as a member of His family. Jesus referred to her as a daughter, which meant that they were related. It would have been impossible for her to physically be His daughter, because He was never married, and Jesus made it clear that those who do the will of the Father were members of His family. (Mk 3:33-35)

Let me briefly summarize this:

(a) The woman suffered from a curse (plague) that was affecting her physically.  (Mk 5:29)

(b) She believed that if she came in contact with Jesus, she could be released from her curse. (Mk 5:27, 28) She was a believer in Jesus even before she was delivered.

(c) She was released from her curse because of her faith. (Mk 5:34)

(d) Jesus referred to her as a daughter, therefore making it clear that they were related. (Mk 5:34) This also proves that she didn’t just believe Jesus could heal/deliver her, but she was also believing in Him, and it made her a member of Jesus’ royal family.

(e) Since it was impossible for her to be related to Him physically (Jesus was never married, so He obviously wouldn’t have any physical daughters), the only other way she could be related to Him was spiritually.

(f) Jesus made it clear that the true members of His family were those who do the will of God. (Mk 3:33-35)

She did NOT just believe Jesus was a magical man with healing powers, or Jesus wouldn’t have called her a DAUGHTER. She believed that He was the Son of God, which is what is required to be a member of God’s family!!

Questions for the sceptics:

If this was a deliverance, why did they use the word “healed”?

A lot of healings are actually deliverances. Verses such as Mt 12:22 and Ac 10:38 tell us that Jesus ‘healed’ those who were bound by evil spirits. Healing and deliverance are very closely related. Healing is often the word used to describe the setting free of a demon spirit that was causing a physical infirmity.

How are you so sure that the word plague means a curse?

If you look it up in the Greek, it lists three meanings, the first two use the word scourge, which means punishment (obviously more than merely a physical problem), the last one directly says misfortune or calamity, especially as a punishment. If you want to see for yourself, please click here.

How do you know she really believed in Jesus as the Son of God, and not just believed in Him for her healing/deliverance?

Because Jesus called her a daughter. Obviously, she could not have been a physical daughter, so this means she was a spiritual daughter. Jesus made it clear that those who do God’s will are members of His true family.

This is a good example of a believer who recognized and believed in Jesus, but wasn’t released from that curse until she engaged her faith in Him by touching the hem of His garment. Only then did this believer receive her deliverance!

Biblical example where believers can be under an evil spell

First of all, bewitching is no light-hearted matter. It is witchcraft to say the very least:

“But there was a certain man, called Simon who, beforetime in the same city, used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that he himself was some great one:” (Ac 8:9)

“O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?” I like how the NLT words it, “Oh, foolish Galatians! What magician has cast an evil spell on you? For you used to see the meaning of Jesus Christ’s death as clearly as though I had shown you a signboard with a picture of Christ dying on the cross”. (Ga 3:1)

If you read on into verses 2, it makes it clear that these people were Spirit-filled believers: “This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?”

You might be asking, but how can somebody place a spell on a Christian? If that Christian opens the door to such a thing, it can happen. The Bible warns us that in the end times, some will pay attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons (1Ti 4:1), and therefore depart from the faith. What do you think happens when we pay attention to seducing spirits? Why do you think we are warned not to do such a thing? Don’t give the devil the time of day! That’s why Paul referred to them as “O foolish Galatians,” because they were giving heed to false teachings, and it opened the door for them to be tripped up.

Other Christians who had demons in the Bible

Mk 5:1-20 tells a story is told of a man with a legion of demons who saw Jesus, ran to Him, and worshiped Him. Demons don’t run to Jesus and worship Him. This man recognized that Jesus was the son of God, and therefore able to set him free, and of course, that would mean he believed in Jesus.

Jesus didn’t go seeking demons to cast out of people. He usually waited until people came to Him before He cast them out. If they came to Him, then I believe it can be easily argued that they ‘believed in Him’.

I find it interesting that many times Jesus cast out demons, He did it for the people in the synagogues. Mk 1:39, “And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils”. It is also interesting to note that Jesus didn’t go ‘looking’ for people to cast demons out of; He waited until they came to Him, and many (if not all) of them referred to Him as Lord. This gives us a good indication that they were believers. Also, those who were in the synagogues were either hypocrites or sincere children of God. Where did Jesus EVER cast a demon out of a hypocrite like the Pharisees? Jesus said Himself that deliverance was children’s bread, and therefore not fit to cast before dogs!

Satan HATES the deliverance ministry

As you can see, if deliverance isn’t for the unbelievers, then who is it for? The believers! I can honestly testify from experience that Christians can come under demonic bondage and be tormented by demons. The reason the devil doesn’t want people to think Christians can be in bondage is that he wants his work to go unexposed. This ministry is one of the most hated ministries by the devil, because it is directly stepping on his toes and ripping up his hold on the lives of God’s children around the world.

The big test is how a minister would help a Christian who is in heavy demonic bondage break free. The problem is, those who bitterly oppose the idea that Christians can have demons are left clueless when faced with true believers who really do need deliverance, and the bondage is undeniable. Often, demonic bondage (torment, etc.) is written off as spiritual warfare or mental illness. I simply do not buy this bogus excuse to allow demonic torment to continue in the life of a believer.

Jesus didn’t allow demons to continue tormenting people who came to Him, did He?

The Bible tells us that He healed (made whole, which includes casting out demons) ALL who were oppressed of the devil. This means even oppression should be dealt with, not written off and considered normal. Some Christians have even become dependent to one degree or another on pharmaceutical drugs for depression and related conditions, when scripture does provide us with the remedy for all such afflictions.

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him”. (Ac 10:38)

If You Don’t Know What To Think About Bible Versions – Compare the KJV and NIV

These new Bible versions are always “correcting” the KJV and will hinder people from simply trusting God’s Word and His ability to preserve it for us today.

They even changed Psalms 12:6-7 where God promised to preserve HIS WORDS!  Hmmm?

Psalms 12:6-7 KJV: “The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.  Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”

Psalms 12:6-7 NIV: “And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.  You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked,”

64,000 words have gone MISSING in the NIV including the one and only mention of the name “Lucifer” – which astonishingly has been substituted by “morning star” a name Jesus called Himself in Revelations 22:16: “I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.”

MISSING: The one and only mention of “Calvary.”

MISSING: All three mentions of “Godhead.”

MISSING: All six occurrences of “New Testament.”

The following verses are all completely MISSING from the NIV:

Matthew 18:11: “For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.”

Matthew 11:26: “Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.”

Matthew 17:21: “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”

Matthew 23:14: “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.”

Mark 7:16: “If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.”

Mark 11:26: “But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

Mark 15:28: “And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.”

Mark 16:9-20: “Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.  And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.  And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.  After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.  And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.

Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;  They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.  So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.”

Luke 4:4: “And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.”

Luke 17:36: “Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.”

Luke 23:17: “For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.”

John 1:5-7: “And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.”

John 5:4: For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

Acts 8:37: “And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”

Acts 24:7: “But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,”

Acts 28:29: “And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.”

Romans 16:24: “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”

1 John 5:7: “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”

This is a very important verse in the Bible.  It is the only statement in the Bible on the triune nature of God.  It obviously ought not to have been removed. It looks as if it is there, but only because part of the next verse 1 John 5:8 KJV has been made into verse 7 in the NIV.

1 John 5:8 KJV: “And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one” has been made into:

1 John 5:7 NIV: “For there are three that testify (bear witness).”

1 John 5:8 NIV: “the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.”]

Many positives have been CHANGED into negatives, and negatives into positives, such as:

In Isaiah 9:3, the KJV says: “Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy.”

The NIV says: “You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy.”

As well as ‘not translating’ TENS OF THOUSANDS of words, the NIV adds many TENS OF THOUSANDS more.  Take a look at some of the many articles on the internet which give details, word for word.

Still not sure?

TAKE THE NIV QUIZ [by Rex L. Cobb]

Instructions: Using an NIV Bible, answer the following questions.

The answer must be taken from the NIV Bible not from memory, and not from footnotes (footnotes are not the Bible) but from the text.

1. Fill in the missing words in Matthew 5:44. “Love your enemies, ________ them that curse you, _____________ to them that hate you, and pray for them that __________ and persecute you.”

2. According to Matthew 17:21, what two things are required to cast out this type of devil?

3. According to Matthew 18:11, why did Jesus come to earth?

4. According to Matthew 27:2, what was Pilate’s first name?

5. In Matthew 27:35, when the wicked soldiers parted His garments, they were fulfilling the words of the prophet.  Copy what the prophet said in Matthew 27:35 from the NIV.

6. In Mark 3:15, Jesus gave the apostles power to cast out devils and to:

7. According to Mark 7:16, what does a man need to be able to hear?

8. According to Luke 7:28, what was John? (teacher, prophet, carpenter, etc.). What is his title or last name?

9. In Luke 9:55, what did the disciples not know?

10. In Luke 9:56, what did the Son of man not come to do? According to this verse, what did He come to do?

11. In Luke 22:14, how many apostles were with Jesus?

12. According to Luke 23:38, in what three languages was the superscription written?

13. In Luke 24:42, what did they give Jesus to eat with His fish?

14. John 3:13 is a very important verse, proving the deity of Christ. According to this verse (as Jesus spoke), where is the Son of man?

15. What happened each year as told in John 5:4?

16. In John 7:50, what time of day did Nicodemus come to Jesus?

17. In Acts 8:37, what is the one requirement for baptism?

18. What did Saul ask Jesus in Acts 9:6?

19. Write the name of the man mentioned in Acts 15:34.

20. Study Acts 24:6-8. What would the Jew have done with Paul? What was the chief captain’s name? What did the chief captain command?

21. Copy Romans 16:24 word for word from the NIV.

22. First Timothy 3:16 is perhaps the greatest verse in the New Testament concerning the deity of Christ. In this verse, who was manifested in the flesh?

23. In the second part of First Peter 4:14, how do [they] speak of Christ? And, what do we Christians do?

24. Who are the three Persons of the Trinity in First John 5:7?

25. Revelation 1:11 is another very important verse that proves the deity of Christ.  In the first part of this verse Jesus said, “I am the A _____ and O _____, the _____ and the _____:”

Conclusion: Little space is provided for your answers, but it’s much more than needed.

If you followed the instructions above, you not only failed the test, you receive a big goose egg.

So now what do you think of your “accurate, easy-to-understand, up-to-date Bible?”

If these 25 questions haven’t served to show you that the NIV is a very inferior Bible, based on a very inferior Greek text, write me and I’ll make up another quiz with 25 more questions, or 250, if you wish; but you will still flunk the test.

If you would like to improve your score, and in fact score 100%, you can take this test using the Authorized (King James) Bible.

This is something too important to ignore.
