Using God’s Word in proclamation is an important part of spiritual warfare.  Develop the habit of applying the Word of God personally, as if God is speaking His Word directly to and through you.  That is to state – particularly aloud – something from the Bible as if it applied to you – because it does.

Where it talks of believers in general, you could include your name and read it out loud as if it applied to you.  This could be called ‘personalising scripture’.

This is especially powerful when said out loud and of great practical use, as according to scripture itself:

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”  (Joshua 1:8)

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11)

“I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.”  (Psalm 138:2)

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

When you are reading your Bible, your Bible is reading you.  It looks right into you, reveals all secrets and there is nothing you can hide:

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.”  (John 12:48)

Practical application

Simply say the words out loud as if they applied to you personally.  The feeling may not leave you that very instant, but a few minutes later it will not be there.

For example, if you feel you are going to lose your mind – demons can make you feel that way or could be suggesting it to you – simply speak the appropriate passage out loud:

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Tim 1:7)

The feeling may not leave you that very instant, but my experience is that even a very few minutes later it will not be there.

“Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Phil 4:13)

“….and with his stripes we are healed.” (Isa 53:5)

“Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.” (Jer 17:14)

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.” (Isaiah 54:17)

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1 Cor 1:13)

“…that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;” (Luke 18:1)

“Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.” (Jeremiah 17:5)

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”  (Psalm 139:14)

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Cor 5:17)

“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” (2 Cor 5:8)

Bible passages can be used as a prayer

“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.”  (Ephesians 3:14-19)

Gratitude, faith and praise

If I really believe – the next logical thing to do is to thank God.  Saying thank you is the simplest and purest expression of faith, it says ‘I believe’.

”Then touched He their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.” (Matthew 9:29)

You are not just talking to your self, if anyone is next to you, but to the whole unseen realm.  God the Father is listening, Jesus is listening, the Holy Spirit is listening, the angels of God are listening.

You have many other listeners too – Satan and his rebellious angels

Let the word of God cast down strongholds of Satan – change ways of looking at things and people, and changing atmosphere.  There are many passages of scripture that can be used in this way, for example:

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (2 Cor 10:4-5)

“Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.”  (Daniel 2:20-22)

“And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation: And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?” (Daniel 4:34-35)

“Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.  For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.  The Lord bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.  The counsel of the Lord standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.  Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.”  (Psalm 33:8-12)

“And said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?”  (2 Chronicles 20:6)

Which parts of the Bible can be personalised?

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”  (2 Tim 3:16-17)

Generally speaking, we can personalise psalms and certain sections of the epistles, but not narratives.   Some passages in the Old Testament can refer to spiritual warfare, where the names of the pagans can represent names of demons:

“Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.  Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries. For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.  Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.  And ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.  There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil.  I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee.”  (Exodus 23:20-27)

Finally:

“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” (Romans 15:4)
