Molech, or Moloch, is mentioned in the Bible as the god to whom child sacrifices were made in a shrine outside the city of Jerusalem. Although Molech is mentioned several times in the Old Testament, his name is less well-known in the archaeological and historical records leading to disagreements over the identity of the god as well as the exact nature of the cult of Molech. The name “Molech” or “Moloch” most likely comes from the Hebrew word Melekh, meaning king.
For a long time, it was believed that Molech was another name for Milcom, the chief deity of the Ammonites, but this view has fallen out of favor because of more recent research. The name of Molech was most likely a title or epithet for a deity rather than an actual name. It is common in Phoenician and Canaanite inscriptions for deities to be referred to as king or lord of something or another.
Are Molech and Baal one and the same?
“Some people say that Baal and Moloch were actually the same god, just with different names and faces. They say that the word “Molech” means “king”, and that Baal was also called “king”. They say that some of the stories and rituals of Baal and Moloch were similar, and that they were both worshiped in the same places and times. One suggested identity for Molech is the Canaanite deity, Ba’al-Hadad or Hadad. Hadad was considered the king of the gods by the ancient Canaanites. Evidence that Molech can be identified with Baal comes from the fact that the pagan altars in the valley of Ben-Hinnom where children were sacrificed are also described as altars to Ba’al by the prophet Jeremiah. Solomon turns away from God
1 Kings 11:1-6 – Solomon marries many foreign women from the territory of the Hittites and from Moab, Ammon, Edom and Sidon. As he grows older, he begins to worship their gods including Ashtoreth, the goddess of Sidon, and Molech, the god of Ammon (Rabbah in modern-day Jordan).
1 Kings 11:7-13 – On the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem (later called the ‘Mount of Offence’) Solomon builds an altar to Chemosh, the god of Moab, and one to Moloch, the god of the Ammonites.
Ashtoreth, Molech and Chemosh
Ashtoreth (Ishtar or Astarte), the consort of Baal, was a Canaanite fertility goddess. The worship of Ashtoreth had attracted some Israelites ever since the invasion of Canaan in c.1406BC (see Judges 2:10-13 & 10:6). This had become widespread among the Israelites by the time of Samuel in c.1024BC (see 1 Samuel 7:3-4). After King Saul was killed by the Philistines at the Battle of Mt Gilboa in 1011 BC, his armour was placed in the Temple of Ashtoreth at Beth Shean (see 1 Samuel 31:8-10).
The excavation of clay images showing a naked female at numerous archaeological sites confirms that the worship of Ashtoreth was widespread during the time of the ‘Judges’ and throughout the reigns of the kings of Israel and Judah. As well as male and female ritual prostitution, the cult of Ashtoreth also involved child sacrifice.
Molech, the god of Ammon, was introduced into Israel by Solomon and his Ammonite wives with their foreign retinues (see 1 Kings 11:5). Prior to this, any Israelite or foreigner who sacrificed his children to Molech was guilty of an abomination in the eyes of Yahweh and was put to death (see Leviticus 20:1-5).
After the official toleration of this foreign religion, children were burnt alive on the altars of Topheth, in the Valley of Hinnom, immediately south of the city walls of Jerusalem (see 2 Kings 23:10 & Jeremiah 32:35). King Ahaz of Judah sacrificed his own sons in the fires of Gehenna (a name, symbolising ‘hell’, adopted by the Jews to describe the Valley of Hinnom), as did King Manasseh (see 2 Chronicles 28:3 & 2 Kings 21:6).
It was left to King Josiah to destroy the high places of Molech during the revival he began in Judah in 624BC (see 2 Kings 23:10-13), though the condemnations of Ezekiel, Malachi and Zephaniah all attest to smouldering pockets of resistance to Josiah’s religious reforms during the following century (see Ezekiel 23:37-39, Malachi 2:11 & Zephaniah 4-5).
Chemosh was the god of Moab, the land to the southeast of Judah. The Moabites are recorded as worshipping Chemosh in the time of Moses (see Numbers 21:29), but it was not until King Solomon built a ‘high place’ (an altar) to Chemosh on the Mount of Olives facing Jerusalem that the religion was officially sanctioned in Israel (see 1 Kings 11:7). This ‘high place’, built in c.940BC, was not removed until King Josiah desecrated the ‘Mount of Corruption’ (the Mount of Olives) in 624BC (see 2 Kings 23:13).
The worship of Chemosh was another pagan religion that practised the ritual sacrifice of children. After the death of King Ahab of Israel in 852 BC, King Mesha of Moab rose in rebellion, but was soundly defeated by the Israelites. As a final act of desperation, he stood on top of the city walls of Kir Hareseth and sacrificed his eldest son and heir, in full view of the horrified Israelite soldiers who looked on (see 2 Kings 3:27). The worship of Chemosh was decried nearly three hundred years later by the prophet Jeremiah, in exile in Egypt following the fall of Jerusalem in 587BC (see Jeremiah 48:13).
Baal Worship Today
Baal worship has been practised all over the world since ancient times by the Babylonians, Canaanites and Israelites. In the Americas, Aztec, Olmec, Mayans, Toltec, Inca, Teotihuacan and Quetzalcoatl (the feathered serpent). In England, the Celts and Druids.
The arch of Palmyra is an 1800-year-old Roman landmark in Syria, part of the Temple of Bel (Baal) and the Temple of Baalshamin which is the most significant ancient temple in the Middle East alongside Baalbek in Lebanon. The temple was dedicated to the Phoenician god of storms and the sky and its columns carried Greek and Palmyrian inscriptions.
The temple was originally part of an extensive precinct of three courtyards and represented a fusion of ancient Syrian and Roman architectural styles. The temple’s proportions and the capitals of its columns were Roman in inspiration, while the elements above the architrave and the side windows followed the Syrian tradition. The highly stylized acanthus patterns of the Corinthian orders also indicated an Egyptian influence.
Isis blew up the temple building in August 2015, destroying two inner sanctums dedicated to the Palmyrians’ supreme deity, Bel. Following the recapture of Palmyra by the Syrian Army in March 2016, Director of Antiquities Maamoun Abdelkarim stated that the Temple of Bel, along with the Temple of Baalshamin and the Monumental Arch, will be rebuilt using the surviving remains.
In recent years, a 12-ton replica of the Palmyran arch has been transported all over the world to be displayed in London, New York, Washington, Geneva, Florence, Dubai., and alongside Baalbek in Lebanon.
Satanic Ritual Abuse (SRA)
Many have not heard of other aspects of Baal worship where people, especially children, are tortured, raped and murdered as part of satanic ritual ceremonies, where they may drink their blood and sometimes also eat their flesh. The blood of those severely traumatised before death is particularly valued as it contains adrenochrome which is a natural drug produced by the pineal gland.
Worldwide, children are stolen to be sold to elite pedophile rings. Women are used as breeders to produce babies that are never documented and effectively do not exist.
Children are trafficked to create child porn which is a massive industry thought to generate $20 billion a year in the US alone but the real figure could be much higher.
We know from testimonies of those who have experienced satanic ritual abuse that they are put through terrible experiences and tortured mercilessly to break them down. They may be locked in cages for long periods of time and forced to watch terrible things, or put in boxes with snakes and spiders and put through other such nightmarish experiences. They may be involved in sacrifices of babies and animals intended to keep them quiet.
Today, Government officials and leaders of society, doctors, judges, police chiefs, and neighbours can be involved at different levels, some only as part of a conspiracy of silence.
There is much evidence online of campaigns in operation to discredit those speaking up about SRA and to deny its very existence. The hallmarks of this are terms such as ‘satanic panic’ or ‘moral panics’, or false memory syndrome – which does exist but is not that common – ‘weird beliefs’ and etc.
Those who have been through abuse will testify that it can be more difficult to come to terms with – and forgive – others who are complicit in one way or another – such as the enablers, the deniers, the protectors and those who justify and make excuses – than the offenders themselves.
