Word Counts: How Many Times Does a Word Appear in the Bible

The table below gives some word counts for four popular versions of the Bible. There is no single correct way to translate the ancient Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek Bible manuscripts into English.   The grammar, structure, and style of those languages are very different from English, and a literal word-for-word translation is not possible.  Therefore, the number of times a particular word appears is usually different for each version of the Bible. Eg. the Hebrew word for work is the same as the word for worship and the Hebrew word for soul is breath meaning everything that breathes.

how many times is the word “ready” in the KJV bible

  3. Skip says:

    Where’s truth?

  4. Randall says:

So, in your count you don’t have the word LAW! Why not? Is it because you don’t want to keep it and therefore believe that it is or was done away with? The LAW is still in effect today as it has been for all time! I also disagree with your statement on getting a correct or even close translation from Hebrew, Aramaic to English!

    • This list doesn’t claim to be any sort of comprehensive list or even a list of important words in the Bible, or anything like that. It’s just more of an example of an idea. It would be fairly easy to find out using google how many times any particular word appears in the Bible as there are some search engines specifically for that.

    • Pamela Hendrickson says:

The beginning says, “Here are some word counts.” It does not say, “Here is a count of every important word.” Do not make accusing assumptions just because one word you thought of was not in the sample.

    • Keir says:

Randall, I thought I would go out on a limb and try to answer at least one of your questions risking your ire? I believe this is a partial list so that is why the word law is not present. Secondly, as far as translating goes I don’t understand how you disagree with that statement. You seem a might irritated my friend?
